Self machining pinion gear, how clever!

Sorry, it's not really too funny... I hope that you're up and running again real soon.

That's a great find, and a great price for anything from REI. I might go and check out one of those for myself for the 4runner.

can't decide if my coupons and rewards points are going towards a tilley hat or some better fishing sunglasses

I got a whopping $6 in dividends this year... too many garage sale purchases that don't count towards the dividends. I got to wear the Solomon hikers again yesterday. I have been pretty happy with them, the treads are holding up very well.

    Good afternoon.

It’s raining and dreary again. Oh joy.

i have the credit card so I get rewards for anything i put on it. i think I have about $55, down from the $150ish I used to get. Now that I have the camper and my camping style has changed I don't buy a lot from them. Shoes and socks mainly

Just some sun and dry. There’s too many landslides and the roads are just horrendous around here. The potholes are just everywhere and huge.

End of my rant….don’t you have some snow to shovel, fishing spots to post, or something?

I'm getting good at installing and removing rear diffs. I just put that diff in two weeks ago.

So, I was climbing up the main trail at AOP, going over a moderately high ledge, maybe 18"s high, and the front climbed up with no problem. When the back started up, the teeth on the ring gear sheared off. I swear I wasn't trying to floor it really hard. I didn't need that much power. I'd climbed over that same ledge several times already without issue. I think it was kind of anti-climactic. When the truck failed to get up the ledge, I thought I heard something but nothing loud like my buddy did last year. But when I tried to climb it again, I heard some clanking noises. My spotter and a SxS waiting for me to go so they could come down, were shocked I had broken something. So I turned around and limped back to camp to evaluate the damage. I ended up pulling the diff and removing the ring gear so I could limp it home today on the front diff and a prayer. I'll pull it out again and send it back to ECGS. :fingerscrossed: My fingers are crossed they will offer me reasonable terms for a new set of gears. :spending:

My buddy busted his diff last year at the same park, but on a more difficult trail.

It’s crazy Chance. I was just reading an article stating that you have now gotten more rain than we have here in Seattle. I lived down there 81-85 and remember that we were way above rainfall averages during that time but nothing like this. The potholes were no joke.

You should invest in spare center section so your truck isn't down while waiting on parts . Also when you pull the axles check the axle splines for twist

This is my spare Ford nine inch center section ready to install in my Camaro if needed

We’ve done that. blew a UV joint. pulled rear drive shaft and threw in the truck bed. rode home in 4wd with the front differental. and broke the fork of the shifter one time. it was in 3rd gear. we drove all the way home picking roads with no stops. slow and go a few stop signs and got it home to the repair shop.

Good evening everybody :hattip: Hope it’s been a good past few days and weekend for you. Friday was my wife’s birthday and we took a few days off at the last minute to celebrate. Stayed local and just chilled.

Nice find, thanks for thinking about me, but I’ve had a sleeping platform built in the bed for a while now. Unfortunately, I’ve also decided to put the Alaska trip on hold for now. Talking to some people in another travel forum it seems the great white north has been overrun since the Covid restrictions have been lifted. They say every camping spot along the haul roads have been packed with RVs and trucks of all kinds. Kind of takes the fun out of my planned “hermit in training” road trip :(

I am making plans for a road trip this year, looking at the continental divide route, border to border. But first we have the grand babies due in April so will have to see how grand parent duties shake out before I firm up dates on that.

that's pretty much the same out here - everyone started camping during COVID because it was a "safe" way to travel. Was hoping folks would get bored with it and go back to doing whatever they did before but so far that hasn't happened. Lots of places used to be busy but still managable to get a site last minute, no more. And seeing huge campers in areas that I've only ever seen tenters and vans before
but the continental divide runs right through MT so come on up! I'll take ya fishing even!

Even around here we saw an increase in camping during Covid for the same reasons. I was hoping it would taper off too but the Insta-overland-influencers seem to be hell bent on continuing to post up all the good stuff and ruin it for the rest of us that want to go camping for the peace and quiet.

My planned route comes right through your favorite areas of Idaho and Yellowstone. I’ll have my Tenkara rod with me. I want to go the the River Runs Through It rock!

    :( :annoyed:

I know lots of camping along the CD here too. You'll just have to sign an NDA before fishing that says you won't tell Marty where the rivers are :notsure:
