Hope all goes well with your surgery!!

Happy belated birthday and hope it was a good one for you!

Cold here, really cold. Teens below zero last couple of mornings but got up to zero yesterday, hit 7 above today. I try not to think about windchill....

Been a rough last 3 days. My son called me on Friday afternoon and said he had really bad chest pains and thought he should go to ER. Uh Oh we both hate the ER and I usually have to drag him in, knew it wasn't good. Didn't have to sit around though they checked him into the hospital quickly, blood clots in both his lungs, double embolism. 1 in 3 double embolisms are fatal. Gave him blood thinners and anti clots through IV about all they can do. Spent the weekend sitting in his room just watching him, thought I was done with that. But he made it through OK thank goodness.

They taught him how to self injections (he is already a pro at it LOL). They prescribed 90 days of the anti clot med by self injection so stopped at the pharmacy on the way home to fill it. Copay was $930, excuse me can I'll change that to 30 day supply for now?! At this rate we'll hit the cap soon a new year so deductibles start over again. It started off crappy this weekend, I was in total shock on Friday night. But he keeps dodging bullets and walking out with him today everything seemed normal again. Hope this is the last time!

Wow, Mike... so sorry to hear that but very glad your son appears to be doing well ! Keep us updated, please ! Thoughts and prayers to both of you. If I may ask, what's his name ? God will think I'm goofy if I pray for him without knowing his name. ;)

I've often said that my military healthcare is my second best benefit next to my retirement pension. The cost of healthcare and drugs is outrageous !

Thanks Cam! It is Kyle. Kyle Hunter, I tried to get his mother to agree to name him Hunter but ended up being his middle name in the battle that followed  But turned out in the end, we have spent a lot of time hunting and fishing together. Yeah I think things will turn out OK, but not up to me of course.

Thanks, Mike.... and thanks for sharing that little story about his name, too. :)

I would think that the first 24 hours are the most dangerous and now it's all downhill but yes, updates will be appreciated.

Yep you nailed it. The first 12 hours they said were critical and gets better after that. 24 hours was the point the nurse told me I could start breathing again.

My Mom has had some bad health issues as she has battled Lymphoma for the last 3 years now and 6 months ago she had a Heart Attack from blood clots that traveled from her legs to her lungs and the Dr stopped counting @ about 200 and said he has never seen anything like that in his 50 years of Medicine. The one that almost took her life was one that lodged in the aortic duct.

I am thankful she pulled through that, wow! Yeah it was exactly a year ago found out he had advanced stage IV Lymphoma. They gave him a 40% chance of making it through it but is now up to 80%, the last PET scan in Nov. was clean. But as I'm finding out there is a lot more to it than just the cancer. Although the cancer and chemo are the causes of most everything else. Early on he had clots in his brain and lost partial vision in one eye. Your mother is in my thoughts, and you. Not easy having either a child or parent go through it, lost my father to esophagus cancer.
