Good Morning everyone. I'm playing hooky from work, not nursing a hangover, just enjoying being 57 years old. Thought I'd go for a run/walk this morning and then plan on seeing The Revenant at the theatre. Rest of the day Ill be R and R. I hope everybody has a safe and great day.

    Morning everyone!
Gotta go to the city (Manhattan) today.
I live in the suburbs. I hate getting to the city. I hate being in the city.
Thankfully, it's just for the morning.

I hope your son is feeling better. I went thru a similar routine when I had a couple of clots in my legs. I was on Lovenox injections daily for a week, no fun. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Be safe...and prepared. Anytime I travel into any urban area I make sure I bring my IFAK and a good flashlight with fresh batteries. Have safe day.

10 degrees low yesterday, made it all the way up to 33 before midnight. Woke to 37 this morning, but winds kicking up.....blowing in cold weather. Just now starting to snow. Predictions are from 1" to 3". Then temps plummeting to single digits by tomorrow morning. Oh well.....I'm spending the day at work, meeting with all my crew, getting them ready for my absence over the next week to 10 days. Tomorrow, it's up @ 0500, start taking meds in anticipation of Thursdays procedure. Gonna spend the day chillin' out otherwise. Just me, 3 dogs, and 5 birds at home until my wife gets home from work @ 1700hrs. Safe bet no one will hear much from me for a few days. I'm told they'll keep me knocked out for about 3 days. Give it a week, and I'll be back in the game again!

Good morning -6 this morning, supposed to get up to -1 for a high. -26 windchill the dogs don't dilly dally outside for long. The youngest I house broke almost a year ago in these temps and his go potty on command from me is "Hurry Up!". And it still works!

I don't blame you! I'm spoiled here now and if there are more than a few cars at a light with me I think of it as rush hour. Drive safe and be careful!

That is the stuff he is on now, before it was heparin. Injection every 12 hours for the next 90 days. At the cost of it they sure are proud of it, but if it works then it is worth every penny!

It did the trick for me. The cost is outragous, my insurance company balked at the cost but my doc persuaded them. His stomach is going to be sore but if it works it's worth it. I'll be on blood thinners till I take my last but there are far worse things in life. Keep your chin up, you and your boy are in my prayers.

Mike, sorry to hear abour your son but glad to hear that he's past the critical point. My wife is stabbing herself with Lovenox once a day for the next few weeks, just had foot surgery. Guess who's chief cook and bottlewasher. :anonymous:

Thank you Dave I hope everything turns out well with your wife's foot surgery! And that the chief cook does a great job on the meals :D

Have a couple of Coopers and Sharp Shinned hawks that have been hanging around the bird feeders last couple of years. They take their share of songbirds although I wish they wouldn't. I was grilling a couple of weeks ago and a Sharp Shinned flew in and almost hit me, he was inches away before he flared off. Today I heard a crash and thought a tree fell into the house, when I went out it was the Sharp Shinned stone dead.

Hate to see that but I'm sure the songbirds are rejoicing right now. Then about 15 minutes before dark spotted this young 10 pointer working his way up the ravine about 25 yards from me. He will be a nice buck this fall if he makes it through the winter.

    Evening ! :)

Mike, did that hawk fly into one of your windows ? I have birds doing that all the time but no bird that large. Considering the sound a sparrow or a starling makes, no wonder you thought a tree fell on the house. Poor guy... I hate to see any animal die but especially by suicide like that and especially such a majestic bird as a hawk (even if he does like to eat his smaller cousins).

Yep and with a screen on it. I have had the occasional bird do that and they bounce off the screen, it works like a trampoline. This guy must have been hauling really fast when he hit it and pushed the screen into the glass from what I can tell. After the other week when he almost ran into me wonder if something wasn't "off" on his navigation system. First time ever had something like that happen here. I'm sure it will not take long for another hawk to move in and take his place though it is good hunting for them around my place with all the feeders and birds they bring in.

Yeah, I'm sure his weight and speed made that screen no match for him and he hit that window pretty hard. I guess the songbirds and other small birds better enjoy the open skies while they can.

I enjoy watching the birds trying to evade hawks up at my parents house. The smaller birds like to dive into the Hawthorne trees in my parents front yard, knowing the branches are too thick for the larger hawk to enter.

Okay so I'm not much of a movie reviewer but here's my take. It is very dark, by that I mean Gray and very drab. Beautiful outdoor scenes though, you could almost feel the cold. It is very violent, a lot of arrows through faces and bodies, hatchet and knife fights and it's all pretty graphic. So close during one of the knife fights that "blood" splatter could be seen on the camera lens. The movie depicts frontier life as most would imagine it, violent and always a fight to survive. I imagine from that standpoint it's pretty accurate with no violence just for the sake of it. I'd give it 4 stars (or hatchets), if you can manage the violence it's not a bad flick. It's not Pixstar or Disney but I enjoyed it.
