    You're experiencing the "passing of the torch". Older folks want to contribute and have been putting stuff like that together, then a younger (old) guy comes along with good ideas and a work ethic and they are willing to relinquish some of their duties and let someone else "steer". It's one of those honors you didn't see coming. You'll never see someone who just has their hand out with a false sense of entitlement get the nod.
