Good morning , a couple days after knee replacement surgery ! It wasnt to bad , other than the pain , swelling , stiffness , constipation etc. PT starts Mon , really looking forward to that . Oh well , guess its all a part of becoming an old fart.

Not to seem like I am bragging, but in the 35 years since I got out of the Army, I have never once received, or even asked for a free meal. I figure if I really can't afford a meal, I have no business in eating out. And i always tip, I usually tip fairly generously unless the service was crap.

I do happily take the 10% Veteran discount from Home Depot and Lowe's, though. Super mega companies won't notice that small of a difference in their income. But a local restaurant, or other small "Mom & Pop" business damn sure might. And I want those places to stay in business, and their employees be able to feed their families. I have been very blessed over the years, even in times when I have been unemployed. Those places need my support far more than I need to save a few bucks once a year.

 

None of that sounds like old fart territory.

Sadly, the well point is outside and about 15’ down, plus no heat in the basement, so water has to get drained once we get below freezing temps consistently. I’ve dealt with too many cracked pipes in past years.

 

Yard leaves are DONE. one more time ought to get it for the year. mowers and leafblower, ive yet to pick up a rake or leaf.

 

this sucks. sorry that happened to you. working for tips is always........ well you know.

on the othe hand? part of the push back on tips right now is everyone ,everywhere thinks you should ad a tip & its even on a pop up at the registers. This is when they had no interaction or involvement at all.

to me? tips are for service & attention by aka::::: a SERVER.


as to the Bob Evans Farms sausage & food? im less than 2 miles from the Original home place & bought our little farm from the family. Its a wonderful area & place to live.

You kinda missed a key point of the conversation. I get what you're saying about how some of these places attach their tips to the bills. What Sue is talking about (in summary), if you're active duty, prior service or retired from the military and a business is giving free or reduced price meals, and you go inside, seat at a table/booth/counter and are being served you should be tipping the servers the difference (or at least a good portion) or you're just a big pile of shit.
