That reminds me of something is it NH that has the big welcome plaza’s with a giant discount liquor store attached? Makes me wonder if there’s a lot of partying going on in NH:drunk:

its an aluminum 9mm copy of a M1a1 tommy gun. the receiver work & frame is all done, barrel mounted, bolt done, FP set up done. got it feeding & ejecting dummy rounds. ready to live fire & then all thats left is to put a finish on it. so for now its still raw aluminum & steel with the wood.
build thread is over on our site. just look me up there. hard to miss. :)

All of this talk about cargo carriers reminds me of when I was in college and my roommate, an aviation major, asked if I wanted to go to visit his home in Keene NH. On our way back to New Haven, CT, we fly over Westover AF Base at 5k feet and a few C5’s are doing touch and goes under us. Those things are giant and we were in a little 2 seat Tomahawk. Certainly an uneasy feeling hoping that they saw us as I watched them circle around under us.

Years ago, we got flown out of Camp Arifjan on some big transport (C-17?) on our way to R&R at Camp Sayliyah in Qatar. After 6 months of dirt/sand/plywood/canvas/grunts I remember feeling totally out of place with all the clean aluminum and plastic and headquarters types. Thanks for dredging up a cool memory.

no - hot day, no wind, full load/tanks and that plane had nothing but its own thrust to get it moving. they needed every inch of runway they could get and they knew it. if you watch at the beginning when they taxi out and turn the front wheel is at the very end of the runway there too so they were aware of what they were doing.
thats not the big Antonov either, they make them bigger. There was one here - well in Billings - a couple years ago and I wished I could have seen it take off. Rare sight up here for sure.
as long as you guys were keeping in touch with the tower and they knew where you were its their job to relay all of that to everyone else in the air. i know flying in AK was always head on a swivel and keeping an eye out for other planes. tower would always jump in and give us a heads up to watch for oncoming traffic but a couple times we were up and crossed paths with another plane that hadn't made any flight plan with the local towers. so then its your job to call the tower and let them know that you just crossed with an unidentified craft above/below you and approx direction/location so that the tower can attempt to contact them and chew their asses out.

That's definitely an old video !!! I remember watching many years ago . The 3 years I was at MCAS El Toro I only seen two C5A Galaxy's land and take off fully loaded . The C5A Galaxy is twice the size and Weight of the C141 Star lifter

I don’t fly, only flew once when I was too young to know better. Yep, I’m a chicken.

but its so much fun!!! the first time in the Cessna in AK I was a little freaked out but I loved all of the scenery from that vantage point so I was totally preoccupied with that
well.... that could make it not so much fun
