Small machines ran on120v, large machines ran on 240v.
Customer got a new machine, went from 240 to 120. The electrician, yes a professional, rather than change the outlet, cut off the old power cord and spliced it into the new machine.
It took a month for the acrid burning smell to go away.

I worked downtown L.A. for the first 18 years.

52 story business buildings.

We always told the customer that we would move the machine for liability reasons. They never listened.

We would lock the machines wheels so it wouldn't roll across the room. Several times a customer would push the machine, wheels locked, down the carpeted hallway. Black streaks and bunched up carpeting and broken casters. Then they would place a call for us to fix it.

 

And they give these folks drivers licenses

 

Bankers and lawyers

Tearing a machine apart, assemblies on the floor, doors open, sweating repairman in front of machine.

Customer walks into room, steps over assemblies, past sweating repairman, puts paper on glass and pushed green copy button.

"can make just one copy?"

You tried finding incandescent bulbs lately? I have a few boxes hoarded for the drop light heat thing.

Looks like its only 20’s below over on that side. Would still kill me in my current weather capability state though.

 

Hadn’t thought about that, think I have a couple in my light bulb stash, gold mine. Remember going skiing up north as a kid. Lady at the front desk asked if I wanted to plug in, never heard of it before. Stupid city kid
