Yes, "small" IT is an entirely different animal than "big" IT. Small / big referring to the size of the company, and also to the size of their own IT staff, if they have any.

A small company, say <100 employees, is almost always going to have an outside entity do their IT support. Or *maybe* they might have 1-3 internal employees doing their IT work for everything they can handle. But in those smaller sized places, each IT person has to be a generalist, and know "just enough" to cover pretty much everything the company may need support for. They are rarely highly technical on any one aspect of IT.

Big companies, say 1,000+ employees, will either have their own internal, comprehensive IT organization, that will be broken down into many teams, covering every aspect of IT (networks, Windows servers, Unix/Mac servers, databases, storage (cloud or local), application support, .....), and since they get to focus on a small aspect of the overall IT needs of the company, they can be, and are expected to be serious experts in that subject; or the company will outsource their IT needs to a large scale service provider that will be expert in providing all manner of IT services to large scale clients.

I started my IT life at Intel, back in 1992, They were only around 20,000 employees then, and grew to over 100,000 when I got laid off in 2010. The smallest employer I ever worked for was around 10,000, so I have never had the need to "know it all", and I am thankful for that. I personally don't like feeling that I know a little about a lot of things, but not much about anything. I feel much more comfortable knowing a lot/as much as I can about a specific topic.

It’s an automatic, and haven’t set a solid price, be about $5k.
Still taking pics and getting details for the write up.

So I’m a bit proud of my response to an email. Some background: my mother ran out of propane last week that is used for cooking and supplemental heating. I get this email today along with the bill in the mail…

I am writing to you regarding our recent service call which indicated your tank had run out of propane. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this might have caused you.

The best way for us to prevent runouts and assess your propane needs is to install a wireless propane monitoring device on your tank. This device sends us tank readings twice a day, so we will know exactly how much propane is left in your tank. Many of your neighbors have already taken advantage of this new technology, taking the guesswork out of the usage and guarantees a runout will never happen.

While our service technician was dealing with your propane run-out, I had him install such a wireless propane monitor on your tank. This device will help ensure that you never run out of propane again. We offer this monitor well below our costs – only $5 per month which includes the hardware, installation, cellular service, and monitoring.

If you do not want the propane monitor, please let me know and I will have it removed. Otherwise, next month you will see an invoice for $60 for your first year of propane tank monitoring.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at, or send me an email at

    Very truly yours,

    Joe

    Oil and Propane Department Manager

    Standard Oil of CT, Inc.

    And my response:

    Hello Stuart,

After some thought, I will not pay a rental fee for the tank monitoring at my mother’s house. Many other suppliers provide the same gage free of charge; for example, my supplier, Seymour Oil & Propane provides the gage free to me. As does my oil supplier, Phillips Oil in Prospect. I suggest Thurston Energy do the same in order to: 1) reduce deliveries, and, 2) reduce potential for lost customers. Thurston Energy is by far the most expensive propane supplier in the area and I have retained your company solely due to the fact that the heating stove was purchased from you. For example, Phillips Propane is selling fill ups between 60-120 gallons of propane at 2.940 whereas Thurston charged 3.969 for 88 gallons; that’s 1.03 more a gallon!
As we are automatic delivery customers, I expect not to run out. A 90 year old woman shouldn’t have to deal with lack of propane for cooking and essentially the main heat source in her family room. Whatever Thurston Energy has to do to prevent running out of propane without me incurring any additional service fees is fine. I think the exorbitant per gallon rate that you charge should more than cover the tank monitoring. Please let me know what Thurston Energy’s plans are to prevent running out of propane or if I should seriously entertain changing suppliers. Feel free to call and discuss this with me at (xxx)xxx-xxxx at your convenience.

    Regards,

    Paul

    Good evening, peoples!

It was raining like a monsoon last night/early this am. The wind slamming into the hut woke me up a few times, then it got quiet. An hour later I heard the sound of a plow truck, doing plow truck things. Winter stopped by for a quickie!

This was on the way to work. I almost turned around when I hit the shit show of F&F shit box civics stuck in the middle of the road, going absolutely nowhere but making their 'zoom zoom zoom' noises..

Bu the time I got home, 90% of it is gone. I spread out the ash bin all over the back yard, it looks like a crematorium blew up. :D

If you gets an extra ticket, LMK. ;)

I’m working on a write up for posting tomorrow , gonna put it at $5900 obo, see what happens..
    SR5 3.4L. 182,250 runs great.
Auto, ps, ac, heated seats (aftermarket), pioneer radio, bedrug, new tonneau in 22
Frame replaced in 2015, tires in 22, Battery 24, knock sensors yesterday o_O

needs: oil change, rear bumper, time for timing belt based on years (not mileage), parking brake needs a little WD-40, and paint needs touch ups and clear coat is wearing.

So, no timing belt is working fine, just the normal 11 year wear/drying issues

I had been staying with the propane company solely for the convenience to my mom if there was an issue with the parlor stove, they would come out and fix it. They’ve done that in the past. But…enough is enough. I’ll be calling my supplier and change over to them.
