My wife... she should have been an archeologist. After arguing with this woman, she's a pro at digging up old shit

Good luck with your feet. New position keeping me hoping as university still has not filled my old position. But one video chat or in person visit with Grand Daughters melts all the stress away. Take care.

    Howdy gang.

It felt like spring today, high of about 75° and sunny.. I thought that I woke up on the wrong planet. I managed to smack the end of my left thumb hard enough with a ball peen hammer that there's a blood blister forming that will need to be "relieved" of pressure in the immediate future. I was trying to knock loose the damn fan clutch on the replacement engine for the firewood truck.

During the weekly CAD Dept TEAMS meeting today, the dept manager made mention of someone that is constantly making the same mistakes when making dimensioned drawings and he is wondering why that same person keeps making the same mistakes.

It was silent, the CAD stupidvisor didn't chime in. Everyone knows who this person is and has complained about the mistakes, yet they never have to correct the mistakes, the drawings just keep getting pushed downstream for someone else to burn up time that doesn't exist on the project to fix the mistakes. Fun times.

Taxes are done, refunds will be inbound soon-ish.

Let me ask the group for an opinion about how to handle a family situation. Last month, I got a text from my SIS for a RSVP for my nieces High school graduation at the end of May. I had 3 days ( on a deadline) to accept or decline the invitation. I have NEVER gotten a text from my SIS the whole 15+ years she and my 1/2 bro have been married. I never hear from her, or my niece, ever. The few times that I drove to JAX for a Thanksgiving celebration, no one would usually say very much to me. My bro wouldn't even talk very much to me. After 2 years, I stopped going.

So I accepted the invitation and made it a "+1" guest. As I started looking at package deals to fly down, rent a whip and a place to stay of 4 days it became obvious that this wasn't going to be inexpensive. I started looking again last week and after seeing the prices, (around $1K each) the lady friend gets cold feet and says that she won't be able to get anyone to watch the new dog (because it's a psycho head case). At first she was willing to help with some of the expenses, now it's just too much $$. I don't feel like I should be paying for everything or even subsidizing too much of the trip, so now she says she doesn't want to go/can't go because of the dog.

I honestly would like to see my niece but it's still a lot of $$ for me to fly /rent a car/ get a hotel. There's no way I could drive the Taco 900 miles, that thing is so uncomfortable. I can't take anymore then 2 hours in the seat.

My dilemma- I need to at least cancel 1 RSVP, but I'm on the verge of cancelling for myself as well. There's just no "tight" family atmosphere whenever I would see them, I wouldn't expect it to be any better/different this time. Is it selfish to just send my niece a card with some cash in it and opt out of going down there?

I would say it’s perfectly fine to send a card and a gift and not go.

You usually get an invite because they want a gift. I would say don't go, you made an effort and it didn't work out

Nope, you are not the only one. Except for a very occasional hot chocolate with lots o'mini marshmallows!!!

 did the "old shit" ever get dealt with?? If not deal with it!!!

Cancel your reservations and send a card and check/gift card. No need to spend all the $$.

    My .02 worth;

Send her a card or gift card.......... IF THAT.

Honestly? I'd do none of it. No one will fuk you over like your family for a nickel. It's just facts.
If you weren't close? Have no real interactions? They are just looking for something for nothing on their end.

family used & abused me for decades. Finally had enough & put an end to that crap.
My kids & me are tight. Very tight. We give both ways. As it should be.
Have a few cousins I speak to.
Everyone else calls when they need or want something. Not a big fan of "users/takers".

It's not your job or duty to prop up everyone else or support them when they don't you.

My usual response to "user/takers" is: fuk em. Feed em fish heads & rice. Go easy on the rice.

    Rant over.
