As a baby, my Mom told me I always slept on my stomach. Of course today, they would faint over that..... I actually continued sleeping on my stomach until age 40. Everytime I tried sleeping on my back, almost as soon as I fell asleep, one or both arms would go numb, and wake me up. Just after I turned 40, is when I ended up going to the hospital with a large spinal tumor that eventually pinched my spinal cord and paralyzed me temporarily. After the tumor was removed, I spent another 3 weeks in the hospital in Physical and Occupational Therapy, learning to walk again. One of the neurosurgeons stopped in for a visit one day, he asked what kind of bad I had at home. I told him I had just bought a Tempurpedic mattress a couple years earlier, he was very pleased about that, as he said it would be the easiest on my spine. When he asked what position I usually slept in, and I said stomach, he almost fell over. He told me that was the worst possible position, it puts way too much torque on your cervical spine, and that I should never sleep that way again, sleeping on my side was the best position. And he suggested I get a body pillow, so I could put the end between my knees, to help keep my pelvis in alignment with my spine while sleeping. This was in 2007.

So I got a body pillow, and started side sleeping. I got used to it, even though whichever shoulder I was laying on would start to hurt after a couple hours. But the back pain would always wake me up after an hour or two anyway.... I still use a body pillow to this day when sleeping on my side. But a couple years ago, I started sleeping on my back, and I have now gotten used to it, and I can actually sleep a couple hours at a time without either arm going numb. I also still have a Tempurpedic mattress, different one that I had 20 years ago, of course.

Mom called this morning. It's rarely good news when she calls in the morning and today is no exception. My Uncle Joe passed away this morning at 80 years old. Though not a blood relative he is the first in my family of my parents generation to pass on. He'd been through some significant health challenges in the last few years, but seemed to be staying ahead of things. He was a great fellow and a good Uncle through the years. He's going to be sorely missed. If you're of the praying sort, prayers for Uncle Joe and Aunt Martha are appreciated.

    Good Morning Everyone!

My condolences Mike. Losing family is never easy.

Has anyone else been struck by how many famous people have passed in the last month or so?

Yes, it’s kinda odd the younger ones. But some of the older ones, given their lifestyle, had a pretty good run.

Rent hell, I want to live full time in such a cabin.

I would love to spend two weeks doing exactly that. If I took a 5 gallon bucket of Aleve with me, I might be able to sleep decently enough to make it worth while :D
