My dad was one. He gave me the best advice before I enlisted and I had a blast.

Northern neck is about a 30 minute drive from my house in Southern Maryland. The humidity is so thick sometimes that you can chew the air. I'd rather have the heat than the cold anytime

Up until just a few years ago always pictured myself going back there and putting a double wide up on a full basement and letting it and me both rot into the ground and living on my military retirement and the land. And hunting and fishing every day. Ex was from there and come to find out she married me in part to get out, and wanted nothing to do with going back. Ever. At this point guess I likely will not either.

Used to be a billboard near Aberdeene, SD that said "Keep your guns, Wear your furs, and Eat Red Meat. Welcome to South Dakota." I like SD LOL. Winters can be pure hell in most of the State though and pretty much any place is going to be rural. However a good friend that is retired from the Navy lives in Spearfish SD over at the foot of the Black Hills. His wife (also retired Navy) and he traveled the country for 2 years and settled there for several reasons. No State Taxes, low cost of living, and a very mild temperate climate were some of the few. Close to Wyoming and Colorado also. It is the start of the sage brush sea and semi arid, not too dry and not humid. Winters can be mild and when they aren't doesn't last long. One of the sunniest places in the country.

Several people have told me you end up landing where ever the grand kids are. I likely will not have that one. No. 1 hospital in the US right downtown and I work there. And am stuck no one else is foolish enough to pay me what they do. So I'll likely stay here until I freeze to death. Have heard the cold and snow isn't a problem once you retire and don't HAVE to go out in it. May find out if that is true or not. But wouldn't mind spending a couple of months in the South during Winter.

I've made a mess out of my kitchen.
This project is turning into full cabinet replacements.
One brand new one in middle of 35 yr old ish ones makes the old ones look like crap.

Where I live now is considered the Plains area. And it is plain and flat. The scenery is typically a subdivision, a strip-mall or an open field (waiting to be developed into a subdivision or strip-mall).

I am here nursing a head ache and a half and a bicep elbow ACHE pt was yeah pt any how. Sounds like every one is having a fun day lol Well with the exception of Kol :{ . Didn't some one else on this thread recently do this went to do one thing and spent almost 10k at lowes or something lol .

For the retiring location check south western maine . As Mike about it yeah the winters but If your retired ok look out the window to much snow go back to couch or workshop . I do not know what the tax for retirement Is but land and state taxes are relatively cheap as long as you do not have water front.
