    :fistbump:

When I was in high school, one summer day I went to a friends house, and we drank the hell out of a bottle of Seagram's 7. Then we went outside to "play" basketball. I kept falling down everywhere, though I didn't even realize it until he came over to help me get back up. I actually threw up in my Mom's car when she came to take me home (I wasn't of driving age at that point) I told her I thought I had the flu or a stomach ache..... She never let on at all. Once I went into the Army, and was doing morning PT (Physical Training - exercises) with guys who had been in for a few years, and especially guys who had been stationed in Germany earlier, I understood how powerful the smell of alcohol was on someone who had been drinking pretty heavily, and I realized my Mom must have known by the smell, what I had been doing. Even though neither of my parents drank at all. I spent the rest of that evening and night tossing my cookies every 30 minutes or so. I swore never, ever to drink liquor again.

Fast forward almost 20 years. I was visiting an Aunt/Uncle for New Year's, and my younger cousin, who was career Army, was home on one of his many deployments to Iraq/Afghanistan/Saudi Arabia. He was mixing Margaritas, and offered me one. Thinking it would be a similar vile taste to that bottle of Seagrams from so long ago, I declined. I explained why, and he told me that Tequila has a sweet-sour taste, and is nothing like the rocket fuel smell and taste of Seagrams. So, I decided, what the hell, one sip. I instantly understood that not all hard alcohol tastes the same, and that some actually has a pleasant taste. That was about 20 years ago, now. I'm still not a big drinker, a bottle of nice Scotch will easily last me a year, but I do some research now before I try a new, unknown drink. So part of my experience with Seagrams is still very much with me.

And on a similar topic - beer. I tried a few different beers in high school as well. Hated them. In college, there was an Irish Pub themed little place in my college town. I went in one night, and wanted to try a Guinness. I'd seen advertisements, heard about the mystique of Guinness... I instantly knew something was very, very different. It was nothing like any other beer I had ever tasted. I loved it!. To this day, I absolutely still love Guinness. But here also, I rarely drink any. A 6 pack can easily last me 6 months. It wasn't until probably 10, maybe 15 years after I first tasted Guinness, that someone pointed out to me the main difference between Guinness, and traditional beers. Most beer is carbonated - Guinness is nitroginated. No fizzy bubbles. That had never dawned on me. The flavor is, to me, the most obvious difference. But I had never even realized there was no nasty fizzy carbonation. I have fizzy carbonation. That is why I have never been much of a soda drinker. And I will not drink Champagne. Waaaay too highly carbonated.

Now you know the reeeeeeest of the story.
    -Sincerely, Paul Harvey.

I do as well. His tone of voice was just so soothing, like Bob Ross or Mr. Rogers. And the stories he shared were always fascinating, even if the topic itself was of little or no interest.

Got sick on rum when I was 18, still can't drink it.

Used to have bull fights in college (Jose cuervo and shlitz malt liquor) I hate tequila now.

When the scouts told me they had a sip of alcohol and it tasted terrible, I would tell them it tastes better, once you lose your hopes and dreams.

Not sure if that helped them or not.

hear ya & can testify to that!!

Anytime I've ever been alcohol poisoned ... I've never been able to drink that particular alcohol again.

Cant do Tequila, cant do JD..... Cant do cold gin.... Cant do beer.....
All of those have resulted in trips to the ER back in the dumb youth days for stomach pumping from alcohol poisoning.

While I still love other whiskeys & boozes in general & do miss them: not drinking at all now days.
The body has just decided that its not a good thing for me. All good things come to an end.

At least I've still got steak.
