    Survey says
    Nope
    Robert Morris Jr
    He is the son of Robert Morris obviously but Robert Morris Senior was In charge of .....In 1986, Morris began work at the National Security Agency (NSA).[1] He served as chief scientist of the NSA's National Computer Security Center, where he was involved in the production of the Rainbow Series of computer security standards, and retired from the NSA in 1994.[7][8][9] He once told a reporter that, while at the NSA, he helped the FBI decode encrypted evidence.[1]

    The Morris worm or Internet worm of November 2, 1988 was one of the first computer worms distributed via the Internet. It was the first to gain significant mainstream media attention. It also resulted in the first felony conviction in the US under the 1986 Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.[1] It was written by a graduate student at Cornell University, Robert Tappan Morris, and launched on November 2, 1988 from the computer systems of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

    Yes and no.. :-} Bill could be considered one of the first hackers, definition did not exist back then. Cyber security analysts have to be so letter of the law :) When we only had 3 security people they would pull me in to find ways to bust suspected breeches. And was told thank goodness your a white hat are you sure your not a black hat?!

    What cache LOL! L1 I am assuming when they first came out with it. Didn't exist before that and IIRC it was shared RAM when they did. And then developed to video card memory now days.

    Oh all the original big wigs were hackers / phreakers etc before they got to where they ended up and hell a good many of them were umm experimenting with pharmacology studies too. There were some interesting characters back in the day Captain Crunch is the funniest one I can think of he figured out the whistle toy from the cereal box was the exact right 2700 hz freq to trip the rotary phone switches back then to open a line and make a call for free :}

    Originally CPU's did not come with cache memory onboard there were external slots for sip chips that you bought as an add on and installed man were they a PITA you had to ensure the legs were all aligned and straight and very carefully install each, one pin off and you rolled the leg up and it was pull and straighten and try again lol

    I had a pair of really small needle nose pliers for that (hp servers) and cpu's and scsi drive pins now that I think of it.

    Seating 8 procs on a server when they first came out. Lift 3 feet or more off the deck in the data center (100 + pounds) and drop it so they would seat correctly. Priceless...

    Size of the org has a lot to do with pay, they don't normally let you in except as a young person and train you. I hit the right spot at the right time and was lucky in my training even though most was self taught. 80k screaming users, thousands of servers, be careful of what you ask for. In the end landed up in a small niche with decent pay and hours. Took me a long long time to get there. Worth it. Once you get that tattoo you can go anyplace. Wanted to go back home and put in for an opening at a fairly large hospital back there a few years ago. I happened to graduate with the HR lady that called me :) Without any questions she said the job is yours but we can only pay you XX,XXX a year. Talked to the Ex about it and it was half of what I was making here. She screamed and through a hissy fit. Should have gone back home.

    I just had a flash back to this LOL. HP server, we also sold Compaq and IBM but we all fought to not install IBM Servers they were such a PITA.

    Workstations were DOS 4 Server was Novell 4, in SC. Center for Rorschach test they did mathematical computations that on the on the old server would take 20 minutes or more for each one. Ordered a new server with the new cache and not much difference in performance. Called HP and they figured out they didn't send the cache chip. Sent it I installed it and no difference in performance. I had them run the program and played with it and discovered that the main screen was modal and the results were in another screen in the background unless they did alt tab to bring it up. And it was in seconds, it was so fast that the main screen didn't know how to handle the secondary screen anymore. It rocked with math computations. Especially Accounting and End of Month reports. Yeah I remember that now wow thanks for the trip back in time!

    Happy New Year all! I didn't make it but I'm back up now. Occasionally, I can't get the old body switched back over to sleeping at night.

    Happy New Year Tim! Almost 1 here. Damn smoker is up to 246 must be running out of water now. Hard to keep eyes open but hate having a fire burning unattended. Go back to sleep! And good luck with that, wish you well and in the new year also. Think I'll set the phone for half hour alarms. Dogs should let me know if something goes wrong I would hope. Just don't like to bet my home or life on having a fire burning on an elevated wooden deck. Or put the dogs in jeopardy either.
