I have lived in the far North ME and Deep South TX of the two I would prefer the North. I like to go look at the Ocean when there is a big storm but other then that I could care less, rivers and streams and lakes etc are nice to go visit and canoe on but do not want one near enough to flood me out. I do not like living here it is a peninsula / island for all intents and purposes since the canal cuts the state in two . Bugs I can work with have been through tornados, blizzards, scorching heat and humidity etc . lol

Politics. That and the cost of living. My son pays $700/mo for a 2 bedroom apt here in Yuma. His friend he went to school with lives near San Diego (one of the dumpy areas) and pays over $900/ mo for a studio.

People make a big deal of the politics, they're nothing I worry or care too much about. There is another petition out to make us our own nation, economically, we are bigger than France and closing in on The UK.

As far as weather, we are all over the place. Donner pass gets more snow than most places in the US and Death Valley gets less rain than most places in the US. Within a 30 mile circle I have high surf and avalanche warnings

Bugs. The mosquito is the State bird here LOL. But there is Florida for bugs too. Was sitting at one of the base bars there eating a sandwich (Lakeland?) and a cockroach 6" long marched across the bar and demanded the sandwich. I let him have it!

When I was on the river today it was in a small town that Grumpy Old Men was filmed. Downtown is not more than 4 blocks long. Stumbled onto an Irish pub and of all things they had clam chowder. Had that before my bangers and mash. It was outrageously good. And I had flashbacks to a real clam bake. It isn't that terrible where your at. Yeah I will take the North too over the extreme heat too.

Back in the late 70's in San Diego 3 of us on the ship rented a 2 bedroom apartment. Was on a Tincan and had 3 day duty so each of us had a separate day of duty and "hot racked it" for the 2 beds. The monthly rent and utilities was half our paychecks. This was in Chula Vista outside the base. Not exactly the high rent district either! Can't imagine it has gotten any better since then. Weather was nice. Traffic, not so much.

Yah I have seen the news on secession what CA doesn't have is the infra structure to support it self at least not at the moment. With their water situation being sort of solved, there are things they would have to import and not real sure their tax base and such would support standing on their own. Not to mention I really do not think it will pass and if it does I venture there would be let's say 20 percent or so of the population would leave . No idea these are just WAGs but who knows.

Ohh it was just a palmetto bug ... LOL We had them that way in TX too , we used to joke about seeing two roaches sitting in the hall way sucking on a can of raid going " this is good shit" lol Or the standard I threw a boot at a roach as it was walking away with my cigarettes and the damn thing threw it back at me !! lol

I could not live in CA a lot of things I own are ... considered illegal lol , if a person is an illegal then they need to leave and come back the right way and pay their taxes like everyone else does there should be no sanctuary or safe zones. I could care less about the jokes on .. alternative life styles what someone chooses or feels is their thing not mine. With that said lots of nice folks out there one my best friends is from Paris / Taft area lol he now lives in FL but we used to go on about this for ages . Every part of the country has it's good points and bad it is a personal preference on what one can tolerate and what one can not.

The politicians think they can float the state on the new Marijuana laws. They tried that when the brought in the state lottery. One of their issues is they are paying out way more in social programs and state pensions than they bring in so they put taxes and fees on everything possible then play the shell game with the many bonds. It's a deep hole they've dug and it'll take a lot more than legal dope money to pay for it. The closest I've seen the gas prices is $0.20 per gallon more than here. Most of the time it's $0.35 or more. Vehicle registration costs are double or more. When you don't have to pay it is when you really notice it. That cost of living is pretty crazy. And to really demonstrate the difference, I took a $5.00/hr cut and my wife took a $6 or $7/hr cut and we live way better here for less than over there.

It will never happen, I think it is funny that people even try.

And yes, the housing and COL is silly high, but for my family, so are the salaries. We can rent out our houses and move where we want.

Every state has a down side, except Florida, that state has no issues.

Born and raised in Calif and have lived in this state 53 of my 55 years on this planet . I'm not leaving anytime soon , and if I do move it will be in the central sierra Nevada mtns near Mammoth

The weather here doesn't bother me one bit , yes it can rain a lot and create mud slides but I deal with it . I've got a bad Santa Ana condition right now and just experienced a few minutes ago a 56 mph wind gust . again nothing is going to phase me
