    Finally got a response last week on my floor jack. Said I had a throwaway jack. Kinda what I knew already. Sucks that my budget won't allow a repairable type.

    Good morning. Getting kind of a late start. I stayed up and babysat the dehydrator lastnight with about 4 lbs of jerky I didn't want to ruin.

    All I can say is there are really some top-notch folks here. Thanks to MQQSE and mach1man001 for the help and going above and beyond. You guys saved me a ton of research time.

    Conversation with son yesterday;

    Son: when do you get to retire, Dad?
    Me: hopefully 9 years.
    Son: that's too soon, why don't you retire at 65?
    Me: that is 9 years, doofus
    Son: you're not 56
    Me: yes I am
    Son: damn you're old.

    No. I've got a bunch of irons in the fire. Today is finish laundry and relax, maybe trim some ear hair and rest the back. Tomorrow I have to chase down some more treated posts, 2x6 and 2x8 and start reconciling my credit card statement and vehicle reports. This week is going to be almost productive, but after the paperwork is done I can get back into full swing. Hopefully the beginning of next week I can have it all wrapped up, do a little dirt work and maybe knock down a few washboards on the entry road, then load the equipment and move closer to home. We have some time sensitive projects to do...time sensitive because the season ends April 15th and my seasonal will head home anytime after May 1st when the heat starts cranking up.

    I hear ya.
    I'm damn tired myself. I usually can't sleep good but is worse the more tired I am.
    Sitting in the cramped seats at rodeo for about 3 hrs killed me. I was about to snap and would've if I were trapped in a plane.
    I need to catch up on laundry myself. It's slow to warm up here today so waiting to let short haired pups out for awhile longer.
    Need to clean up my mess in kitchen and do end cap and side splash.

    If anyone ever wants to feel humbled, take a look at some of the volunteers and seasonal employees at your local resource management agencies ( usfs, park service, blm, etc.) The site I'm working on now has a couple tipping close to their 70's (+/-) who are volunteer camp hosts and my seasonal and his wife (she's a volunteer) and they are 70 (+/-). We put in 10-15 hour days on this project and they are step for step with me all day slinging boards, nails, screws, 80lb bags of quickcrete, wire and paint and whatever else that needs to be done. Being 20-something years younger than them really adds an element of responsibility on my part to make sure they are ok, but truth be known, they really like what they do and really enjoy the work and sense of accomplishment. They take on a high level of ownership of their efforts and the pride they have is through the roof. So, the next time you see that old person with the crook in their back walking the campground or recreation site with the volunteer nametag, the chances are they've seen a thing or 2 and they are there to help. And, you never know, that may be one of us in the not so distant future picking up little bits of trash and swamping out fire rings.

    I can't do the grandstand seating much anymore. We bought some bleacher chairs we take with us to help soften things, but most of my spectating is done at home now. We usually hit the local racetrack for dirt racing a few times a year and I'd really like to get in a rodeo or 2 but it's just too rough anymore all cramped up on a 2x12 seat with a set of knees in your back from the people on the bleacher seat behind you. And, with my wife's changing work schedule, we don't get too much of a chance to do those things. So, while we aren't as social as we once were, we're probably a little better off by not putting our selves through the extra pain of having fun.
