A 72 Camaro hood will not fit inside the bed trust me I already tried with my old fiberglass hood . the tailgate needs to be down and the hood laying on the bed rail on one side and the other side laying on the fender well

This allows the hood to flex more than I'm wanting as its not supported very well . I spent 2hrs yesterday trying to get my old hood in my truck

Camaro hood is 61 " wide 69" long

The bed size is 61" long 58" wide

Span the bed with some moving blanket wrapped 2x4's place blanket down across set hood on bring blanket back up and over. strap to the boards then strap ratchet boards to the bed d rings . so the pressure down is on the 2x4's not the hood take it easy and get it done.

Camaro hood is 61 " wide 69" long

The bed size is 61"long 58" wide

So the hood is 2" wider than the bed and the same size in length as the bed

The hood is a super lightweight fiberglass hood so not keen on using ratchet straps on 2x4's

I meant flat over bed sides tailgate up.
I had a 97 taco and a 67 chevelle with both steel and full fiberglass cowl induction hood.

Bud it won't matter you can slide the 2x4's as close together as you want they are on top of the bed sides the hood rides on them. I would put it so the width is across the 2x4s long side front to back , if you need to turn the 2x4 up on edge so nothing hits the bed sides etc. I do not know the shape of the hood and whether it has concave/convex surfacing. We transported aircraft parts that are far more fragile then that hood that way on pick ups or flat / high side trailers etc. just takes looking at the shape and blocking it up in the right places. If you have to make a cradle of 2 x4's with vertical stubs padded with foam to support the curves etc. Mind the aero dynamics of the hood in the bed wind comes over the top drops into the bed and back up if you leave the tail gate up .

Happy Friday. 6 this morning already up to 11 and supposed to hit 31 today and snow. Tomorrow gets up into the low 40's and looks like it will for the next week with a few 50's. I'm ready for that. It is that time of year when I see a cord sticking out of the grill of a car or truck start to wish that I lived someplace that didn't know what it was for. Then there is the guy last night, see a number of them and be nice when they stop doing that and put the damn bikes back on!

Wish it was that easy , I'm mounting it using 12 DZUS fasteners this time . a lot of metal fab will be needed

Umm Hence the boards are up on top of the sides the hood on top of them , ever seen honeycomb and laminate fiber glass structures skins are less then .062 181 medium weave fiberglass covered with a single layer 0f 221 weave silk both sides with .015 wall perforated hexcell honey come sandwiched between them want to talk light and flexible you could walk up to it with a short blade pocket knife and punch a hole in it with out much effort. Oh btw you have seen them they are what the nose cones on most aircraft are made of that or spun fiberglass . If you sandwich support it top and bottom with supports for the curves you will be fine do not for get you must pad it upper and lower you are strapping to the 2x4's just to hold it from moving off them not to the truck . The boards are strapped to the truck they need to be tight. No matter how you do it if your not going to transport in an enclosed vehicle or trailer you will have to cover it and might have to rebuff the paint from some rubs if it is not secured right.
