Got one of those useless pieces of paper, also. Graduated from college as a tool and die maker and within 6 months all the manufacturing went overseas, thankfully I had a background in computers

Unfortunately, you can sit in an air conditioned room and run heavy equipment remotely. Fortunately, it's cheaper to hire someone like me to actually go out and do it...and I've yet to see a remote controlled grease gun.

Nope. You just don't see folks lining up for trades jobs anymore. I encourage my kids to learn one or two. They may not get rich, but they can make a comfortable living.

Con and I tried to instill that "thought process" into our two kids. ;)

Dual majors in anything makes life "Easier" when something takes a dump...:fistbump:

Now that our son has decided Florida will be his "New Home" , that "thinking" will ease that transition as home and road construction is gaining steam once again or "borrow" Dads toolboxes and make $$ as a "Wrench" again......

I blame the micro wave oven. 30 seconds and the pizza is done. No more watching it so it doesn't burn. That led to all this instant gratification and having it "now". Young people don't have that sense of accomplishment because they don't have to go through the labor of learning and doing. Just push a button. Don't get me wrong, all this shit is nice to have. But when disaster strikes, younger folks don't know the way to work around it. The power goes out and stores come to a screeching halt because they don't know how to write a receipt or count change.
