Well, you remember that thing the other day I was talking about that I was looking into, but said I didn't want to talk about it?
Well, what it was, was, the son of a lady my wife works with was trying to line up some drivers for this company that some guy was starting. My wife, who isn't completely thrilled with the idea of us owning another truck, is intently trying to come up with alternative ideas, and I guess she mentioned this to this lady, or this lady mentioned her son was looking for drivers, I dunno. Anyway, she brought this home to me. Well, what it was, is this guy was "working" for this other fellow and they were setting up this company, and they were going to be hauling government freight. Exclusively. And they were going to be using government trailers. And they were going to be getting 3 very nice trucks on the order of this
    IMG_4023.jpg

. Pay was going to be good. I was going to be able to pretty much pick the truck I wanted as long as it fit in their price range. Sounds good, right? Ya. All we were waiting on was the guy to get a bond.
Well, except there were some things that didn't quit make sense to me. Because as you may not know, I used to own my own truck, and I did haul government freight. So, the things he was telling me, well, some of it made sense, but some of it didn't sound quit right. But, I just figured they didn't have all the info, since they hadn't been completely clued in yet by whatever entity they were going to be working through.
But it didn't sound to bad, and since I had experience with this before, what they were saying did sound plausible.
Well, today i got the call.
    It was all Bullshit.
I don't blame the guy that I was talking to. I think he got snookered. Turns out he was driving team with this other guy, who it turns out was just a lease purchase guy, for an outfit out of Omaha. He apologized to me, multiple times, and really sounded like he was down in the dumps, because he'd just kinda realized his dreams were in the shitter and he didn't have a job and he has a family to support.
In fact, truthfully it sounds to me like I know more about this kind of stuff than both of them put together.
So, it is a bit discouraging, but Ill be honest, it didn't really surprise me.
Anyway, I just got off the phone with the company I used to be leased to, and Im thinking about buying that big ol truck myself, and leasing it on with my old company, and hauling that govt. freight anyway.
I dunno. gonna look into this stuff, and we will see what happens.

There's some companies around here hauling for the Marines and the Army. They gotta be making the bucks because those trucks are pretty well pimped out.

If you can on board with the US Transportation Command it's not a bad to be a carrier of theirs. I'm having issues right now getting loads picked up as FEMA has grabbed a lot of the available capacity out there.

One of the washes at work that crosses one of my roads was almost completely choked off from built up sand and silt. I spent 2 days moving enough material to get the dump truck and loader in there, today I started hauling. The haul is so short I can't get the transmission into high range. From loaded to dumped to reset to load is 10 minutes! I've never had such short turns. If I was getting paid by the yard I'd be making a good chunk of Christmas money!

But if you were getting paid by the mile you'd be crying.
