Mike, how often should the hoses and belt be replaced on the Tacoma's? I know what books say, but what does experience say?

 

Belts.
When they get noisey.. Aka dry.
Cracked. Which is personal indicator. A small crack every inch or so (hard to describe) is fine. When you get cracks all over its time.
Seen some last 8000 miles.
Seen some last 80,000.

Hoses.
I can count on one hand changing a hose under 100,000 miles usually because of outside forces.
Replace the coolant and keep on going.
Feel the hose cold. Aka like room temp.
If it feels gooey,,, replace.
If you squeeze it and feel it crack replace.

We change much more belts than hoses

 

How many years can they last? I only have 55k on my truck, but it's 7.5 years old. would much rather replace on MY schedule versus on the side of a road

 

If you feel more comfortable going book route then that's want u should do.

We have vehicles much older with like 150,000 come in and the hoses feel good.

I know for a fact a 200,000 mile 2000 camry. Original hoses. Hoses are starting to get stiff. Cust declined..

I have never change a hose in any of my vehicles.
20 years old 140,000 was my last one.

All depends on condition and what you want.

Didn't know this club was here, be 52 in Oct. After reading a few of the last pages seems like I belong here. Well have to be at work in 6 hrs time to see if I can sleep a full 5 hrs ......doubt it probably wake up after 3 like usual.

 

FWIW Susan, I changed my belt somewhere around 75K miles/7 yrs because it was making noise. My hoses were fine when I changed my antifreeze about a year or so ago around 95K miles. Like Mike, I haven't changed out a hose on any vehicles. Hmmm ... Maybe on that '73 Ford pickup ... But that was a very, very long time ago and I beat that truck hard. My first vehicle, i was 16.
