    But we have the affordable Care act... But seriously, I really do hate that for you! About the only way to get a good rate is with a big company, and they make us jump through hoops to get the discounts.

    Even working for a big company doesn't guarantee good rates. My employer's plan has a 4K deductible for each insured capped at 12K. So if I had it through them it would be 12k deductible before they start paying for me, my wife, and daughter. Plus the weekly copayment from my salary. And that's a top 50 company. We get our insurance through my wife that works for the school system. 4K deductible for all of us combined.

    True that. HDHP's can be good depending how they are set up. We used to be on one by choice because the premium was so much lower, that even if you were to pay deductables and spend Max out of pocket, it was still thousands cheaper than the standard plan per year. And the company paid one of the detuctibles. You just have to be disciplined to put money in your HSA.
