I still have an working Beta max, weighs about 20 lbs.

I remember being excited about pong, and quickly becoming bored with it.

I remember the first remote TV 'clicker', It was much better then Dad telling me to go change the channel.

Funny but with only about 6 channels to watch it seems like there was better shows on. Now I have hundreds of channels and don't want to watch any of it.

I have to say we were lucky to live when we did.
Seen so much change in 50 years.
Not sure the younger folk will get to enjoy it as we have.

The world population will reach 7 billion this year!
It was 1/2 that when we were born.

Guess the term " Baby Boomers" is right on target.

I have to say we let it get this bad and I for one am sorry to leave it to the next generations to fix if it can.

 that looks like a wonderful place to spend some time....

I agree... I wonder how I'd have turned out if we'd had computers and video games, etc....

Im with ya brother-at 50 I managed to knock out 34 years in the official workforce starting in it at 16..and if you count the years that I worked at my dad's meat shop in Illinois every day after school and on most Saturdays starting when I was 11, I busted it for 39 years until this terminal bloodclot put me on permanent disability. I honestly don't know if I would've made it another 17 years to official retirement especially given the fact that all the jobs I have ever had were highly physical. That would have resulted in working a total of 56 years! Gees-

I worked in an office my entire life, but with lots of travel which frankly was exhausting. Literally a thousand airline flights. I have done all my own yard work my entire life. My father taught me to be frugal. I saved. The most expensive vehicle I have ever owned is my Tacoma, though I could afford to own more than a few top line BMW's (it astounds me how people pay up due to self love and vanity....). Raised two girls and paid their way through college - this was expected in my family for generations as my grandfather earned a PhD in Chemistry from Trinity University, now Duke. But I am not proud, just tired. tired.

My side of my family was straight middle-class (we did have an inground pool though lol) but my uncle was an anasthesiologist and he lived in Lake Forest, Ill. in a stately 3-story home with iron gates and guest parking for 10 etc. but like you, he dug the "normal" line of cars and only bought those. He could well afford the Caddy's and Lincolns-even the Jaguar or Rolls-but no, he bought the first year '71 Chevy Vega, the '69 Chrysler Town n Country wagon, the '71 Buick Estate Wagon..and so on. On the other hand I had my Uncle Jack, a big shot at "Wiremasters", makers of the wire racks that hold your gums and candies. He didn't make near as much as Uncle Joe, but yet he had the Jaguar, the Avanti, the Mercedes, always wore a suit and smoked that fancy pipe:D
how far is retirement for you Pster? I hope it's soon-I get how you feel..it's been a long road.
I too love to save that dough-and thanks to such a fine truck like my 2001, that little endeavor has been very successful:) I could run out and get a new ride-but how in the hell can you sensibly dump such a wonderful vehicle that has been nothing but stellar and good to you and your family...just to be able to say "look I have a new truck"-I just cannot do it..yet:D

Actually, I could have retired when I was about 48, but I will probably work until I am 60...unless they put me out to pasture first.....I do believe in making room for the young turks.....their turn to either save the world or make it worse. :)
