That is correct. It can only handle the the areas it can maneuver safely and that means from higher altitudes. Some so great that whatever they're using dissipates before it can do any good.

It's easier and cheaper to manage the problem before it becomes a large scale catastrophe. This started in the 70's and since the late 90's and early 2000 to current has been catastrophic fires. Don't expect it to get any better anytime soon until someone points out the elephant in the room and they change their (lack of) management practices.

There is a video on ABC7 News showing the affect of a 747-400 doing a phos chek drop directly onto a house . you could here the roof tiles cracking under the weight of the phos chek and within seconds the entire property was covered inches thick of phos chek

One of the most expensive places in the country to live, $200K isn't going to get you much of an apartment maybe a one bedroom. If he was going to Cisco support in Raleigh, NC (Research Triangle Park) he would get a lot more for his money, but they wouldn't offer him that much to go there.

About 10 years ago a guy I worked with moved to Seattle to work on the Storage Area Network for the insurance company that handles Microsoft employees. He started at $150k a year. The reason they moved his wife completed her M.D. and Ph.D in a specialty that was about 12 syllables long and she started at $250K. With $400K income they ended up an hour and a half North of Seattle in a small house. And have a 3 hour commute each day, provided traffic wasn't bad. The Valley is worse.

Going through this with my oldest son right now. Level 2 tech support for Apple and works from home but "only" makes $50K a year hourly wages in a low cost of living area. He wants more money and has a second job interview for a startup in Boston tomorrow at 2. Which is salary and max is $85K a year. He is in the top 5% of OCD cases in the US and Apple let him take long term disability for almost a year. And paid for almost all of the in patient treatment. Trying to get through to him is impossible between his OCD and being 30 he can't see the long term benefits like health and retirement. Hope he doesn't find out the hard way.

You ought to take the pony out and drive in it some and enjoy it. Maybe in the morning it'll still be there and could get some cool pics of truck in the snow

And we have a winner. Month or two back I said let it burn let it burn for fires in Az. The National Forest Service is finally starting to do that in some areas but a lot of resistance still. And you can't always let it burn once you let it go too long and far.

Honestly that is a big fat elephant and I can't believe so many people don't see it. Then again nothing surprises me the older I get. Same thing happened last year in the Great Smokey Mountains.

I can't say a whole lot more without getting political, except that it's going to come down to a change in thinking and people willing to work. The "people willing to work" part is probably as tough or tougher than change in thinking. The interns that come through the office already have an opinion influenced by the professors as well as an attitude that they are going into management and they can affect change. Part of that is true, they will make it to management and the affect they are looking for is actually along the current lines of the current catastrophies. It's really scary.

This set up was where it was going ( the clamped pieces) to give the tail of the light platform support so it would not bounce up and down. Yes the material is very heavy duty but it is all that was available locally. I wanted U channel 2024 T3 .075 but it would have been special order and pricey this was avail in a local scrap yard.

    IMG_20171207_132435.jpg
This is the platform side view with the 8inch wide support stanchion the tunnel is for wiring to run through. The weight of the platform is actually resting on .080 L angle riveted to the back of the C channel.

    KIMG0564.jpg

With out the cross beam in the back using the single bolt hole from the factory to pin the stanchion in place. The hole with be threaded to 1/4-28

    KIMG0565.jpg

Light platform cleco'd into place temporarily .
    KIMG0568.jpg

Lower beam in place clamped this has now been changed to going to make two more smaller stanchions made like the 8" one but the upper flanges to the front will be extended using the same wiring tunnel entrapment under them and single 5/32-32 machine screws to pin it to the roll bar.
All the stanchions are made out of 5052 H32

The light platform has 3 sides left / right / front bent 30 deg up and the rear has a 30 deg neg bend and is 6061 T6. The side bends are reverse angles to the radius as close as I could get them to mirror.

All the rivets you see are 2117 AD -6 (3/16) the smaller stanchions and the light platform will be attached to the stanchions using 2117 AD -5's (5/32)

    If they start using C-5's lol there would not be a house the C5M ie modified with C-17 engines can carry some where north of 32k gallons based on water weight of 8.333 no idea what that chemical weights but lol yeah it better be used only in the forests. It can do low level high speed ( relatively :} ) cargo drops out the back cargo door are routinely done with cargo pallets . Though don't think they would get that low in the canyons but also don't think they would have to carrying that much fire suppressant lol. The C-17 is more maneuverable an has comparable weigh capacity but not sure those pilots would want to get their plane dirty lol :} All weather plane fair weather pilots :}

These are 100 year burn areas. Very steep and full of scrub brush and oak trees. It is a natural occurance, before we showed up, for large areas to burn. People just happen to like building on a hillside with a view.
I would like to know how theses started. There have been no storms, so it cant be lightning. Too many at once in the same area to be a coincidence.

Years ago there were a series of fires in the area. Turned out to be the fire captain of Glendale was setting them.
