    F'k that. I usually don't take alot of time off, but definitely take the use or lose. That place survived before I got there, it can damn sure limp along for a couple weeks.

    Curious most places I have worked if you had a use or loose policy and they canceled it they paid it out or if you had money out tickets, reservations etc they let you roll. This apparently is not your companies policy?

    Thought about it? Sure. Able to do right now? Not so much. But it probably wouldn't be much closer than the one I work in now. Depends on what I do.

    @Martin64 I did think of your new machine on the way to work today , sorry I could not get a picture to much traffic and such. They have been widening turn outs and such in the one section of highway and were done so it was clean up and make look pretty day I guess. Guy on a sweeper clearing the road and guys picking up silt fence etc. I noticed the excavator creeping along and swinging it's arm back and forth in the distance. I could not figure out what it was doing from that distance, when I got near enough lol it has a drag mat hung off the bucket and it is picking it up swinging back dropping dragging across the dirt grooming it picking back up and repeat in another section. LOL thought it was a bit of an expensive machine for something like hell my baby tractor could do it turf tires and all. I did not see any other equip but pick ups and the broom machine guy so I guess it was the use the tools at hand lol

    We have had a lot attrition (some forced) and that only leaves me to handle the close outs of these projects and the work keeps on coming...

    How is that even legit ? Not in anyway shape or fashion an expert on labor law but offering a benefit ie time off canceling it of their choosing and not compensating you seems ohh I do not know shall we call it insanity. If you have 15 years left more power to you to tolerate that BS .

    It is weird down here. Local companies will negotiate more $, before giving you another week off.
    They get away with it because it is the policy and then onus is on the employee to take their vacation.
    I love living here, but some shit is just arse backwards.

    When I'm brushing areas out I'll grab a small tree between the bucket and thumb and sweep out my tracks and groom it on my way out. It's mostly a pride thing.

    I understand that routine the guys up home do that too ie try to pretty up the place etc just funny to see the huge excavator swinging a 5' Sq drag mat On a guess by eye ball bucket was over 2 foot wide closer to 3 foot and maybe 2 ft deep at the deepest point big machine for tiny job :} They could have hooked it to one of the light weight pickups and done it quicker :}

    One of the good things with an ex is (as you seen) cover a pretty good radius in one pass of the tracks as opposed to several trips back and forth. But it depends on who's doing it and what the budget is. There may be some type of shallow utilities they don't want to smash....lots of possibilities.

    So, when I went to work for the feds after retiring from the military I learned that (because I was drawing a federal pension) my leave accrual started at the "beginner level" (4 hr/pay period) while anyone else who either had more than (I think 15 years) accrues 8 and between 4 year and 15 years accrues 6. Those prior military that did not retire accrues 6 or 8 (depending on how many total federal years, military or civilian). And the reason we (retired military) have to start over is because Congress calls it "double compensation" (even though we earned our retirement).

    Having said all that, I'd have to agree that there is some monetary value to any leave/vacation that's been earned and not allowed to take.
