1st break (coffee) of the morning.

So, the starter in my Tacoma has been acting up lately. Actually I think it's the safety switch on the clutch pedal. If I try to start it like normal, sometimes the starter either drags or just clicks, but if I click the clutch bypass button on the dash it fires right up. But, I'm also leaning back toward the starter because one day last week, when I started it in the morning, the truck started but the starter stayed engaged for about 30 seconds after it started. So not sure which direction to turn...maybe it's both? Haven't looked up any troubleshooting for the symptoms yet. Any ideas?

    No, South Benson.
    Original owner was in $outhport.
I remember that boat when it was brand new and thought it was pretty nice.
Funny how I ended up with it.
Pretty solid hull. Old Sea Ox boats were comparable to Gradys

If the starter remains engaged it's most likely the starter solenoid sticking to worn contacts. Replacing the copper contacts would eliminate the sticking issue (provided it's the plunger sticking). Dodge Cummins had this problem. Their wiring harness had a low amperage circuit in parallel for the fuel shutoff solenoid. Starter would stick back feeding high amperage power through the fuel circuit causing it to catch fire if it was engaged too long. First time it happened to me I was able to hit the starter with a rock to pop the plunger free. After replacing the contacts, I kept a ball pein hammer in the truck just in case.

One last picture from the coast this work week: winds gusting ESE @ 22 off shore. This boat is booking north. Y’all enjoy the weekend, need to get back and tend to some picnics. It’s busy today.

my old Grady White had a SBC in it and I used to jump the solenoid with a big screw driver.
I also had a solenoid bank that were used for the power trim and tilt.
Used to carry plenty of spares in the glovebox.
Good old "marine environment" used to raise hell with 12v systems, even those designed for marine use.

Some didn't like the arms, but I never had any trouble . They worked well for me, as I can drive a boat in reverse.
When I bought the Ox, had my buddy lengthen the arms about 6 inches, so the lower unit can completely come out of the water.
Never had to change the anode on the lower since it was always up, only the zinc on the bracket that was in the water.

Well, Tamiflu it is. She tested positive. Pray the little one doesn't get it. She's at Grandma's but I have to pick her up soon. Looks like a busy day.

I did and followed. I'm curious what he's done to isolate any failure on the board from feeding back on the control system in the truck. Short circuit protection is a must when dealing with ECUs. I/O is pretty robust, but it's still easy to burn something up. I'll ask when I have more time.
