Afternoon all.
Well. Everything done I needed today.
Roofs are all set now.
Went to get a dolly at harbor freight.
In and out.. yea right.
My wife made a big mistake and said look at the clearance bins.
So I looked at the predator engines for a future project.
Then......
Got two dollies. $15 a piece
Got a series of socket rails for future storage . $1 a piece.
Then did a double take on torque wrenches.
I needed a 1/4 inch. Inch pound.
Yea ok...
35 bucks down to 10 on clearance. Yeup
Next to it a 3/8.
Yea ok..
45 bucks down to 10 on clearance.
Don’t use them very often but I’m doing recalls that need it now.
Yes cheap as shit but I can check torque with another to make sure it on and adjust as necessary.

Got my hunting and fishing licenses.

So for now I’m good.

Those predator engines do the job cheap enough you never change the oil and run them till they die. Get 2 year out of them and save the cost of a new engine by not paying for the services. I've got one that's probably 4 years old and never serviced. Just add oil when it needs it and go. But I think you probably run them harder than I do. Mine are on trash pumps. I lose the pumps about every 2 years. A complete Harbor Freight pump and engine is cheaper than just the pump rebuild parts on a Honda trash pump.

 

That's what's nice about making your own. You can do it how ever you want it.

 

I’m planning a 12 foot Lowe’s or Lund style flat boat with a long tail setup with the 13 hp predator engine. Won’t be scared to go in uncharted rocky/ stumpy areas. Just thinking

 

Why not? That'll work. You'd probably want to service that motor. I'd imagine turning a prop in open water requires more power and rpm than turning a 2" pump. I run my pumps WFO when filling the tanks and probably 1/2 throttle when I'm watering with the sprayers, 1/4 with just the garden hose.

 

Will need to modify the motor for sure.
But the long tail kit is made for it.

 

Nice! I have there 3/8 & 1/2 Torque wrenches. They've had good reviews. @DoorDing shared this Link to their Pro 1/2 “ Drive breaker bar. I need to get one.

 

I wonder can a person make it water cooled?

 

Complete engineering redesign.
Its a bare bones setup.
Not super efficient. No reverse.
BUT. LESS THAN A GRAND and 1/3 of the price of an outboard.

 

Well, I just googled it and they refer to them as "mud motors"....not real conducive to a water cooled motor.

I'd just about bet you could find a small inline gearbox with a revese..1:1 just like running off the shaft.
