You wouldn't like the alternative....standing on your head. But, yes. All the power is turned off before going in. The only thing in the box is wire and splices so there's nothing in there to really work on. What's there now is crap left over that nobody wanted to deal with.

With the pump wires, were redoing them so they come in one conduit and out another so that eliminates those splices. There's some wiring for the host site we're going to do the same when we replace it to handle 50 amp service instead of 30. But, no. We're not going to create our own fireball pit.

Mine was 2 years ago, kind of wanted to go. Half way across the country but the real deal breaker was they held it in October. Because of fall leaf color. Silly people, that is prime grouse hunting season. I didn't go.

    Small useful for me stuff.
That came to mind as I listened to the rain beating the roof.

Glad to see this. Some of the things I’ve seen and some of the shops I’ve had the pleasure to work for wouldn’t think twice of sending a guy into a fireball pit upside down while everything is hot. One of the biggest reasons I left the last place I worked was a service disconnect replacement on 480v hot and no PPE. They didn’t want to call the local utility to disconnect because the plant didn’t want the downtime or permitting.

o_O  Sure you do, but the drainage should be good.

Just to put some fears to rest. The top of the small curbside box was grade once upon a time. There are 2 more boxes below that one. To the left of the shop vac is the fiberglass box that was on top of that one. Since the picture was taken we've done some hand shoveling, exposed more wire and conduit and squared it up. Monday I'll shoot a picture of what's there now then I'll do final shot of it later next week.

That's one of the advantages we have. We own our utilities so we control them which is good and bad. People before us just did the easy thing but not the right thing. Now we're doing the steps to make it right. I don't think I'm going through all this to make it easier for us, but for the people that come after us. And we are making it so if we have to hire a contractor they'll have no problems getting in there if they have to.

So far they’re dry at Martinsville, there’s rain and snow in the near future though.
