on a serious note i know i'm not comparing apples to apples here with our trucks since i have a 2.7 but did the e rated tires take much away from your trucks power and how do they ride

The ride is a little harsher/stiffer than my previous Michelins, but those were street tires. I kept the 255-85/R16 ST-Maxx's at 35 PSI during the long highway trip to and from the Toyota Takeover (183 highway miles) for slightly better fuel mileage (not much better.)

The truck came off of overdrive into 4th gear frequently on long uphills on the highway. I decided to just lock out OD completely when I come across these uphill sections. I don't think its a function of weight or load range E. Likely because they are taller tires. This is not enough of an issue to me to make me want to re-gear, because I felt that the truck had plenty of power to navigate through some of most crazy ass off-road terrain that I've ever encountered. Steep, high angle, off-camber, rocks, boulders, ditches, deep water, mud. You name it, the tires did fantastic. The tread traction was very good on slippery, rain covered rocks/boulders. Handled and cleared mud extremely well.

For day-to-day driving, 30-32 PSI seems to be a much comfortable ride.

On the extreme off road trails of Rausch Creek Off Road Park, I initially started at 18 PSI, then looked at all the crazy shit we were going to do. So I dropped down to 15 PSI and they were INCREDIBLE at molding around rocks, stumps and holes. The sidewalls were nice and flexible but appeared to support the tire carcass well. Traction was FANTASTIC. The sidewalls did encounter some major battles with rocks and tree stumps. But the sidewalls with the aggressive side tread pattern didn't bat an eyelash.

I carried two extra spares, thinking I might blow a sidewall or blow a bead off. None of that happened.

I'd buy them again, if I ever get to wear it down. That's gonna be a long while, because it's on a six tire rotation and I still have a good set of Michelins that I can and will switch into the rotation for DD use.

I guess it would get you to a shop if you're close to a shop. Stay on 2WD on your way to the shop.
