Lemme tell you a story of a gal named Sue.
A poor mountain woman couldn’t stand humidity no mo.
Her kinfolk said you got to move away from there.
So she loaded up the taco and moved to The dessert West.
    Arizona that is.
    Swimming pools and cactus bushes.

Now, dammit, you guys are causing all kinds of trouble here. It's still cloudy and humid and hot and I am not going outside to grill.

I hate humidity! It keeps me in the house.

You still haven't gotten that thing out?

No :anonymous: it is 3' underground, but I want it gone!!! Part of the problem is every time it rains, hole floods and sends some of the dirt back down. All my work from the other day is gone..... plus more dirt in it. :annoyed:

I think you're going to fight that for a lot of years even if you do get the stump out. There are probably a bunch of roots off-shooting plus a tap root or 2 you probably can't get. Bring in more dirt, mound it up a foot or 2 over what you have so it'll settle in. As that stump and root rot out you'll probably get more settling but it'll slow down.

I’d still be in panic mode! And I hate to admit it but it would be a trip to the vet because I don’t think I could do it.

All of the quills came out including the barb, correct? If not, the barbs will continue to travel and cause infection. Eyes, brain, etc...

The mesquite in this part of the country doesn't get very big and, for a tree, have a short lifespan. I've read where some species are as little as 10 years or so, though I'm not too sure. I have seen where if you water them too much they will split the bark because they don't know how to deal with excess water and will grow out faster than the bark. They do tend to get heavier branches than their trunks can handle and break off at a fork. So finding enough to mill would be a bit of a challenge.
