I’ve shot 308 @ 25yrd, not a big deal as long as the impact berm is built correctly the risk of ricochet is minimal.

Ifen yer punchin holes through steel targets @200yrd with a 308 then it ain’t the correct type of steel, we use AR 500

 

Those targets are at the 200 and 300yrd line of my local range and installed and maintained by the rifle rangeand no they're not AR500 , they don't last long at all

Good evening
Leaving work 4 hours early tonight. Getting up early to go visit FIL. 3hour drive. He's doing better.

Went to town this morning, banking and stuff. Coming home traffic was backed up. There was another accident at the corner of my road and the state highway. Someone was stopped waiting to turn left onto my road and they were hit from behind. Surprisingly no one was hurt. This type of accident happens way to often on this highway. Cellphones and speed don't mix.

 

Snow is fun, you can pee and write your name.

The rifle range is located between two small mountains , one on ea side of it . So one of those mountains is actually the berm , there's a lot of boulders strewn all over this berm aka mountain and there's been issues with high powered rifles and richocet's

One incident involved a shooter with 338 lapua being hit by his own rd he fired from the 300yrd line . Now this is not some open range land area this rifle range is a public facility also used by law enforcement to train on


There is however a section of BLM land off the I-15 FWY between Barstow and Victorville that goes to Las Vegas called Hodge rd and is situated on a ridge overlooking the I-15 . A lot of Long range rifle enthusiasts shoot here so you'll see 50BMG rifles or 416 Barretts and 375 Cheytacs

As mentioned you're shooting from on top a ridge down into the Desert below sometimes 1500 -2k yards to the target . Now here's where it gets interesting !! , about 1500 yards past the closest target is the I-15fwy NB towards Las Vegas . Shooters with very high powered optics can see cars and the occupants traveling on the 15fwy clearly

No cars have been hit luckily but people traveling on that section of fwy have no idea there is long range rifles to their right on top that Ridge pointed towards the fwy


From time to time BLM or Sheriffs agency will close this area and you've got to ask for permission to shoot there
