In a few native cultures, having an owl call outside your home is a sign they are delivering you a message that someone is gravely ill, about to pass or has passed.

Good morning. Off today and don’t have to go back until Wednesday! My wife is off today so we are just gonna chill and try to get the new kitty a little more comfy with the other cats!!

Hope everyone has a good day.

@Bluegrass Taco How are you feeling??

@ImpulseRed008 I’ve read you have had over 10” of rain? That’s crazy. Hopefully the worst has passed.

Female owls get WAY bigger than the males. The oldest female in our woods struck at a flashlight I rudely pointed in her face one morning. Damn near peed on myself.

You probably have more than you think or they wouldn't be there.

We have a bunch of burrowing owls out here. Not many trees to roost or nest in.

We have a 110' tall water tower on the property behind us. LOTS of birds of prey work the area.

I forgot to put my shirt on this morning. That's why I needed more coffee. I'm not sure what Andy's excuse was.

    Afternoon all,

Tomorrow morning our C-47 Tico Belle, our Flagship Normandy Veteran, will leave headed to the Bahamas with 12000-16000Lbs of relief supplies for the Bahama Islands. Time permitting we will return to Melbourne airport to pick up and deliver a second load. We are not sure how many trips we can afford to foot the bill on but we are looking for donations on our main www page and the Valiant Air Command FB page to defer the rather expensive fuel costs of the trip..

    upload_2019-9-6_16-32-41.jpg

Wishing a smooth and safe trip to our crew and our old girl flying into this ravaged and dangerous area.

Several years ago I was out just driving around, looking for wildlife before camping for the night. I had gone all the way to the end of the road and was on my way back down and just poking into all of the side roads and what not. I was just about to turn into another side road that was about a 120* left turn, had to take two stabs at it. I had turned, pulled up as far as I could and was just about to reverse when all of a sudden something blacked out my entire windshield (I was in my 1st gen). I braced myself thinking that something was crashing down on me and was waiting for the windshield to shatter. But the dark thing passed overhead and I looked up to see a great grey owl land on the sign post just inches in front of my bumper. She had swooped down from behind me as I was turning and skimmed over the cab of my truck. I grabbed my camera off the passenger seat just in time to fire off one shot before it flew away. I was thinking that I had missed the opportunity to get better shots. But it only flew about 15 yards away and landed in a tree. And she sat there for about 15 or 20 minutes and just hung out with me. Got several dozen shots and enjoyed the encounter. Still one of the coolest things I've seen on my travels.
