The wolves are also consuming the abundant beaver population on ISRO (and some on the hares).

As the wolf pop declined, the moose pop exploded. The moose are deforesting the island in a bad bad way. It was plain to see even to me and I’m no biologist.

We are in a management program on our huntland thru VDGIF. They tell us how many does to shoot to keep the deer heard within the capacity of the land. we weigh all deer and pull jawbone for them. weights tell them the health of the herd. especially yearling and 1 1/2yr old deer!

 

I have thought of running a generator or a couple of alternators for 12 charging or some such thing hell maybe get it to run a Da Vinci hammer.

uhh i got nothing, all i know is i let @15 bucks walk last year waiting on an older age class of deer

 

Were you here in Bama in the mid to late 1970's when the deer herds nearly died off due to disease?

 

There were no eight or ten point racks. I big rack consisted of maybe six and the rack was only about 6 inches high. A big deer then weighed about 120 lbs. So over populated that the deer were eating pine bark. A poisoned diet at best.

Not there in the 70s but wasting disease came back in the 1990s-2000s. IIRC.

I used to hunt my family plot during that time and every year the allowable doe/buck numbers changed all the time.
I’ve let big bucks that we’re healthy go. I’ve taken skinny does just to help out.

 

You have to take does. I will have to look up the birth rate of buck to doe ratios but the birth of does far outnumbers the birth of bucks.

 

Here we go again in Bama. It has been so hot, and so dry that highway grass fires are beginning again. Just like a few years ago.
