When I was stationed in the Puget Sound area of Wa. State that was the best for that. Steelhead and Salmon literally out the back door. When I was in NC I lived in Arden, just South of Asheville. I could be on Mills Creek (and often was) in 20 min. Here half an hour puts me on some decent limestone streams.

DNR is begging people to take slot limit trout out of the creeks so they can grow larger ones. Catch and Release is actually hurting some streams. Labor day weekend my youngest son and I normally go all 3 days and smoke the trout. This year he couldn't go but I still went. It is a small limestone creek that doesn't even require waders. Usually only takes a couple of hours to limit out, they are all close to the same size because of slot limit sizing.

Most were with size 18 or 20 bead headed nymphs. Usually pheasant tail, hare's ear, or CDC. When I do hit a hatch just an adams to match the size. Have gone to CDC for most of my dry flies and especially spinners. Used to tie all of my own but they are so cheap now and time always seems short for me so I just get them online.

Have a dentist appointment at 0700 in the morning, what the heck was I thinking scheduling that on a Monday?! The oldest dog is still jealous that I took the young pup out hunting without him and dragged me out of bed once again. Took him out but he didn't need to go, so brought him in and brushed him and thought about this thread. Many of the Orvis crowd fly fish and upland hunt but don't have a clue. Just saying....

@Old School posted a video that pretty nails it when it comes to dogs on the show me your dogs thread. Can't believe my old guy is so jealous of the young pup hunting and not him but on the other hand we have been through a lot together.

Death Valley days takes me back to when I was in San Diego and I used to head into the desert and your mouth tastes like sand. Too much beer and not enough water and you know what I mean...

But it also takes me back to the sponsor of Death Valley Days- Borax and the 20 mule team. When I fished for steelhead and salmon in Wa. back in the 70's used to strip the hens of the eggs and wrap them up in cut pieces of nylon stockings and pour borax over them and then freeze them. When you fished them the borax would start to thaw and melt looking like the males were fertilizing the eggs and cause the big hooked jaw males to hit the eggs. When you go to beach a 44 pound King on a #8 flyrod with a 10 pound tippet and it hits the beach and breaks off when it clears the water you better believe that you drop the rod and run up to it and throw yourself on it. Of course they fin you and there is as much blood on you as the fish, but it is so worth it. This thread has brought a lot of memories back to me which are good and I thank you all for them, it is greatly appreciated.

Anyways if you have not seen the video that old school posted I think most of us on here are old enough to remember Death Valley Days, and I thank him for it. This cut about dogs by Ronald Reagan really hits the nail on the head about dogs IMO.

I would love to try Fly Fishing!! As a kid camping and fishing in upstate NY I would watch the fly fisherman fish the Beaverkill river. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f7Aq-FaPeLI

It was productive, I actually got a nap in, so I consider it a success.

    Morning Fine Fifties!

Think I'll find some coffee, then the cans are full, so Bear and I will make a garbage run. Later on, l'm about 75% decided to go on a shopping trip into Anchorage with my wife ... hope I don't regret it after, which is why I'm only 75% decided. I'll give it some more thought after coffee, and maybe talk it over with Bear. ;)

Have a great day all. :)

Beautiful sunset today in Southern Maryland. Clouds and overcast almost all day but this made up for it. Y'all have a great evening.1207151648b.jpg

Thanks! Right place at the right time I guess.I think the fall season is best for nice sunrises and sunsets. Western Maryland is a beautiful part of the state.

Maryland is a pretty nice state all around I think. The eastern seaboard with Ocean City, Annapolis, the Bay Bridge... southern MD with lots of coast line and rural areas... western MD with the mountains. And I'm here in central MD and maybe the best thing I can say about that is we're less than an hour away from both Baltimore and DC. :) Looks very much like I'll be relocating due to my job next year, either to DuPont, Washington or Atlanta.

Good Tuesday morning! Above freezing here this morning and supposed to get into the mid 40's today and tomorrow. With rain on the way. Next week that all changes but I'm in no hurry for white rain to start.

Caught the sun framing this farm near where I work. The state has the land now and it's part of a state forest. I think someone still works the land but always sad to see a family farm get shuttered.
