I'm kinda starting to feel like Tom Hanks character in "the burbs"
I never knew my neighborhood was so exciting! Well, actually I did. We get at least one weird thing happening every year.
Last year it was the guy across the street that got fired from his job as a snow plow driver because he never plowed anything but himself - got pulled over for DUI in the company truck. Then he tried to set the truck on fire. Cops had him handcuffed to the front porch for an hour while he called the lady cop every name in the book. Oh, and it was like -20* that night.
And the year before there was a meth dealer here. Kinda thought things were a little off with the folks - a dozen or so cars showing up every night, one at a time, and only staying for 10 minutes or so. Then one night a kitchen chair got thrown through the window. Cops came. Landlord came. Folks moved out the very next day.
And several years ago some drunk assholes having a house party on the next street over decided it would be fun to play Russian roulette. Guy lived but he's permanently disabled.

 

if i move my rent will triple. and other neighborhoods have just as many problems. all in all its not bad here, just everyone once in a while we get a wild incident. there are two sheriff's deputies and a highway patrol officer about 4 blocks away so if they think its ok to live here then it cant be all bad.

oh, and i forgot the guy that was beating his wife. called the cops on him myself. but the dumb ass operator at the 911 call center wouldn't stop insisting that i give my address. she had my name and phone number. good enough. told her if the cops wanted to talk to me i would come to the police station in person. i didnt want to give my address because i was worried the cops would come over to question me while the asshole was still around. i'm single, female and live alone. i don't want some jerk whos over there beating his wife to know it was me that called the cops. if he beats her whats going to stop him from coming over here and beating the crap out of me for calling the cops on him?
i was out in the garage that day cleaning or something. heard the automatic garage door over there start to open, then close, then open again. heard some yelling. then some banging. then glass breaking. door goes up a foot so or then down, over and over. somehow she had gotten out of the house with her car keys and was in the car with the doors locked, trying to get out of the garage and away from him. he kept hitting the button on the wall to close the door everytime she tried to open it. cops came. ambulance came. she left in the ambulance. he left in the cop car. once i saw he was gone i walked over and talked to the remaining officers. she came back the next day with a couple other folks, packed her things and was gone. he was back about a week later to get his belongings - i assume he had been in jail during that time. house was empty by the end of the month. dont know why she didnt just blow through the closed door. or wait for him to be behind/in front of the car and pin his ass to the wall.
