The rate is not wholly set on amenities. The NPS sets a price range that the concessioner can charge. As long as they are within that range, they can charge anywhere from the low end to the high end. If the concessioner wants to raise the rate outside that range, they can petition the Park for that rate but they have to present a pretty damn good case for the NPS to accept the higher rate.

They must be petitioning on a daily basis - prices are up about 40% in the last couple years. Last summer Gros Venture was $33 a night and I thought that was steep but I paid for one night to be close to my mooses and to have access to the dump station. I was down there for a week and stayed at a FS camp until the last night. Def needed the dump before the drive home  Same camp will be $41 a night this year.

It's a great day hike. I've spent the night up there a few times as well. Shelter was about half way up I think but may be gone.

Good morning. I spent most of yesterday morning sitting in my truck. My daughter had a dental procedure and, like most medical facilities, they would not let me into their office to wait. Spending hours in a vehicle is not fun. Sitting in my Tacoma made it bearable.:D

My wife has to plan and control all these appointments.
It’s not surprising that people can’t follow directions.
The me me me attitude is definitely on the rise..

I can understand the concern in today's world. And they tell you not to leave the parking lot- even to drive 1/4 mile down the road to get a coffee. But nearly 5 hours sitting in a parking lot is a challenge, especially in winter. Do you run your truck and burn gas - but at least have the radio for entertainment or leave it off and sit and freeze?

It’s not easy from any side.

Similar to the opening of our campus. Semester starts 2/4/2021 with remote classes, with face to face classes starting 2/22/2021. Staff working from home will return 2/8/2021. Many working from home want to continue working from home. Me personally, as with others, have been on the front line the entire time keeping our buildings in good shape, ready to open anytime.
