The nerf bars and push bar I bought in 1997, I don't think they are around anymore,

Headlights I replaced with HELLA H4 E-Code lens( not sealed) and then added HID bulbs to the Hella lens,

Wow. I just hit 242K yesterday. I plan to keep this truck for a very long time.

 

How does it cut off? I have Hela too and with quality H4 bulb they are superb.

 

I have the E-code Hella H4 glass lens, nice cutoff lines if you have the rectangular lens like mine, I have the Hella European version so there is a little light desperation.
Hella E-Code Conversion Headlights

Before the modern aerodynamic lamps that today's cars come with vehicles had either round or rectangular headlights. Two large round 7" headlamps such as the original Mustang, Camaro, Alfa Romeo, Miata, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and most motorcycles and trucks or four smaller 5 3/4" headlamps such as Cutlass, Chevelle, Daytona, Corvette C2, C3 or two large rectangular 200mm headlamps as the C4 Corvette, Jeeps, or four smaller rectangular 4"x 6" lamps on some vehicles like Volvo and Chevrolet. These original sealed beams are not much when it comes to driving safety and are easily over driven at 50mph. Even the halogen sealed beams are only a small improvement as their lens flutations and glass reflector are very poorly engineered and quality of production is typically very poor.
In Europe with the unlimited speeds of the Autobahn and the over all higher road speeds allowed in most countries, driving safely at night was part of the normal engineering concept and long range lighting was expected as standard equipment. These European Hella H4 e code replacement headlamps have a precise low beam cutoff which gives a nice blanket of light on low beam instead of the two dots on the road, which most sealed beams provide. Also the Hella H4 low beams are more effective in fog and snow than most OEM fog lamps and give less glare to other drivers than sealed beam lamps.
High beam gives a long range driving beam that illuminates road signs and animals eyes for quite a long distance.

These lamps are not DOT approved and are intended for performance off road or show usage.
They totally light up the road for me and because of the sharp cutoff they do not blind the oncoming driver. A world of difference between the standard lens and bulb

 

Added a snow methanol progressive injection kit and a 2" pulley, I have zero pinging and Perfect AFR
numbers across the total rpm range now, the injection kit lowers supercharger temps by 100 degrees
and raises octane to 110-115.

I ditched OEM SAE approved sealed lamps long time ago. I got E-coded H4 Autopal, and they are very decent and legal in Poland . However it is important what H4 bulb is inside. The crappy "noname" cheapo that came with lenses were really crappy comparing to OSRAM bulbs I bought few days later. So my question is how HID H4 bulbs are doing in your housing.

 

I'm happy with them, some people say it's the wrong combo, maybe so maybe not, but I'm very very happy, night and day difference for me

 

I bet, but really what I'm looking at is does Hella keeps stable cut-off (flat with raised on the right site) with HID bulb or the HID bulb creates some ghosts or so.

Love this truck. All the highest mileage owners become the "local celebrities" on this site. I hope mine holds up to 500K, but I would be happy with 350K too.

 

I've been shopping around for a hood scoop for my 1st gen, I've come across a few fiber glass hoods with scoop on eBay going for around $500 but they require hood pins. Where did you get yours and how much? Thanks, love your truck by the way, bad to the bone!

I cut a 4Runner scoop into my hood, that's why you don't see these around on Tacoma trucks. Here is the process and you could have a body shop do this for you

If you don't want to have a funtional hood scoop you can probably just weld the 4Runner scoop onto the Tacoma hood without cutting a template into the hood.FYI

 

If I get to 350k I would be ecstatic . If mine goes 500k I would make love to the tail pipe

Our family friend got 510k on his 2nd gen, unmaintained (owned since new) 2.7l auto regular cAb. He did 25k oil changes and Walmart tires. Not a single other maintenance
