Doesn't Toyota do their own break -in? I built several engines and I agree. Does your average joe need to seat things in the engine?

My service guy did me the exact same way at first. I refused to take it back and said I had asked for the oil change and trans fluid to be checked manually. Got the truck back the next day with everything done, and they had additionally done the tsb rev 1 for the trans, and ordered plugs for the lower control arms.

I live next to a quick lube place. The types of cars/owners going in are very different than the people who are on an internet forum for cars.

I also fall into this group and like to do a first oil change at 500 to 1000 miles. Not going to hurt to check and grease all fittings on drive shaft(s) early. I do all my own service work because I like to do it and know it's done right. I always do oil & filter changes half of what the manual recommends - so every 5k.

You guys that change the oil at 500 or 1000 miles.... Why are you so concerned about getting all that "metal" out of there..?? IF there IS any there...It's already been caught by the filter (that's why the filter is there)... It will come out at the next change... whenever that is...!!
I do not understand this kind of irrational thinking....!! Sorry..! (Cdn)..

When l drain new engines at 1000 Miles the bottom of my drain pan always looks like glitter so its not all in the filter.

I did mine at 1000 mile too. It's been standard practice on a motor, time immemorial. Can't hurt plus I'll be doing my own oil changes for as long as I own the truck (baring what toyota care covers). I'm still on the fence of letting it go 10k between changes. 5k would only be twice a year for me.

Of course it's "not all in the filter"... you are seeing what is in the "bottom of the pan"...(like in never made it there yet).. It is likely too heavy or it would have made it to the filter already..! That shit will never get to the filter...if it does it will be caught...! If it stays in the pan...great...I'll get it when I drain the pan when I choose to change the oil... (if it don't come out ... OK.. no sweat either way..!!)

It can stay in the pan... I'm not taking that off to wipe it clean..!

You can´t get through to some people. I have made this argument several times here, stating that the filter is doing its job, the oil pick up is an inch or so above the bottom of the pan, and if anything is fine enough to make it past all that, it will be disintegrated in the combustion chamber, but they still want to change oil earlier than the engineers say.

Agree completely. Not to mention the magnetic drain plug also doing its job.
