There are other companies that would take a typical corporate approach and deny everything. Try to blame it on “xx”.

Your dealership jumped right on it. They’re fixing it and trying to make it right. You could be going through a lot worse. Just let them do their job, ask for an extended warranty, and enjoy your truck.

While there, ask them to check the coolant crossover in the back of the engine. Is plastic and known to leak coolant.

infant mortality. Be happy your dealership is repairing and not giving you a run around on the warranty claim (this is why there is a warranty after all)
I would push to get the platinum extended warranty or if you already bought it maybe refunded as a sign of goodwill from the dealer.

Infant mortality is usually applied to electrical components. This was probably just a bad seal install at the engine building plant. It can happen. Lots of parts to put together to build an engine.

infant mortality is a phrase used in every industry. It just acknowledges something has a higher chance of failing at the start than in the middle of its expected life cycle.

I appreciate all the comments. Thank you all.

I will get the extended warranty for sure. It has been offered, nothing in stone yet till I pick it up.

I will keep this thread updated once I get the truck.

Most people here have a bit of common sense and fairness. You have a problem. They are fixing it. Probably give you an extended warranty. Anything made by man can have an issue. It sucks, to be sure, but they are working earnestly to fix it. Do you feel you are "entitled" or something?

Um, no it's not lol. I've been working at a high level in industry for over 25 years and this is the first I have ever heard about it outside of it's real meaning.

Without reading back further, I do not believe I have ever mentioned anything about being entitled to anything.

I came here for advice, and to see others opinions on the matter. It has been great and I appreciate everbody’s input.

I guess a couple of you guys took that wrong. Sorry. I wasn’t meaning that to come out as me being entitled to anything.

This sounds like almost the exact same issue I had with my first 3rd gen Taco. Bought a 2016 SR5 back in July 2016 and at 1,600 miles it developed an oil leak at the exhaust cam shaft position sensor on the drivers side; oil would pool up in a spot on the head (see image) and then run down hitting the exhaust manifold. The local Toyota dealer replaced the sensor thinking the sensor itself was the issue. After replacement the leak continued, so I called the dealer I purchased it from and they came and picked up it.

    2016 SR5 Oil Leak.jpg

Master Tech at that dealer stated the cam shaft journal bearing cap that the sensor bolted into seemed to have some level of porosity, and oil was being pushed through the bearing cap and into the bolt hole for the sensor. The oil would then run up the threads of the bolt and out onto the valve cover. They stated they would have to pull the timing cover, cam, and replace all journal bearings on that cam. According to the service department Toyota did not have the parts necessary in their main warehouse at the time. I opened a case with Toyota when the leak first happened and the representative I spoke with stated I should pursue requesting a different truck from the dealer. Luckily the dealer offered to replace the truck before I even asked and offered to bump me up to a TRD Sport for my troubles. On another note, the TRD Sport they gave me had an exhaust leak off the lot, so Toyota gave me an extended warranty on that truck due having two trucks with factory defects in ~2 months.

I would at least pursue a platinum level warranty with your case manager from Toyota; that is what they offered me.

I hope it all works out and you get an perfect truck and the extended warranty you surely deserve. Just wondering, did you or any of the Toyota people you spoke with mention getting a new crate engine to install instead of repairing the original engine? If it were me, I'd feel better with that option.

They did not say anything about a new motor.

It does suck the motor is getting torn down like this at 500mi, but I can view this as a plus. The technician will be able to throughly go through my engine while it’s out.

It sucks to have a problem on a new vehicle but looks like they are taking care of it. On my first service visit, the dealership had an automatic door close on the back bumper. The dealer gave a rental and replaced the damaged parts. Hopefully they'll have yours repaired soon.

Lesson learned! When buying a near new used vehicle or a new demo or any excuse for them selling a “new” vehicle with miles on it please check with Toyota for service history ! Beware of low mileage trade in’s or deals too good to be true.

In my case I would want a new truck, I can assure you that the engine bay won’t look the same,( I hope I’m wrong) I mean for God sakes, the stealerships around here are a mess, they scratched my inner fender changing my spark plugs, the left oil residue when they changed the oil, they dropped a bolt in the AC ducts while replacing the radio, now you can hear the damn bolt rolling when turning. So anyway,
I hope your stealership is careful while doing the repairs.

I would ask for an extended warranty on the powertrain to 100k. Other than that, that's why new trucks have manufacturer warranties.

OP, I agree with this post. Pulling the engine is a ripe environment for other damage. Its just the way it is when things happen in a rush. Make sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb when it returns. I have experienced this on another vehicle and it was returned with all kinds of scratches, missing grommets and tiebacks, missing brackets and bolts, filthy fabric, etc. Ask HotRod53 a member here how his was returned when they pulled the engine on his '13.
