Honestly you can do a ton of wheeling with a 3" lift, good tires, and good tires placement.

Budget SAS: Buy someone else's rig for half of what they spent on the conversion alone :) Just be patient and one will come up eventually.

There are plenty of build threads on SAS's. search through those, and do a ton more research. Someone else already said it, but a leaf sas will probably be your cheapest and "easiest" bet. But keep in mind you are COMPLETELY replacing the entire front end, steering, etc... You might keep the wheels and brakes.

If you are a fabricator, you can do it fairly cheaply, assuming you can source a new (used) axle, but you're looking at a 30+ year old axle if you get a toyoya axle. There are several "kits" out there, but complete kits run in the arm/leg territory.

But as others said, the best budget build is to buy someone else's build.

If you have to ask the question.....

Get out and wheel your truck first. Then determine what you want or need. Swapping a truck because it looks cooler is literally one of the worst ideas possible. You'll end up over your head faster than you can believe instead of wheeling your truck on the very capable IFS.

Suspension, 33s, some armor... Rust, Gray wire and 2Low, and more. T4r is stock.
OP, the best advice I can give you is find a friendly local Off Road group that you can start wheeing with and learn more about your truck before digging in to modifications. You'll be supprised by what a completly stock 1st Gen can do. If you must, start with upgrading armor, skids, sliders etc...
