Anything special needed to be done besides the oil change, multipoint inspection and tire rotation?

It's mostly highway miles in a 4x2 and since my extended maintenance package ran out it's my first time paying for it separately, however a nearby dealership wants to charge $140+ for all the above + checking floormat placement and other trivial stuff.. Shouldn't the cost be around $50-70?

Yes they do, and I hear they are better than the Automatics.:rofl::rofl::rofl:
But yes, I think its easier for people to ask online than it is to go out and look through the book. I have the manual on a PDF so I can pull it up on my phone anytime.

Thanks and I was looking at this earlier on another thread buy trying to see anything that TW normally recommends to look out for and also wondering about the price on what is essentially an oil change + tire rotation and some minor stuff

What TW recommends and what the engineers who designed the truck recommend will vary. I would just go with what the manual says. Cost will also vary, but I can get an oil change and tire rotation from my local Toyota dealership for around 70 bucks.

I had an oil change (incl. filter) and a tire rotation done at a local gas station that still does repair work (imagine that!) and the cost was $56.60, including $5.92 in sales tax. I wouldn't likely take my truck to this shop for more complex repairs, but I definitely trust them to do things like this.

Once upon a time, I might have done this sort of work myself. But my 70 year old body doesn't take kindly to this kind of activity like it once did.

Wonder why they give a time duration and not just mileage? Must be to drum up work on the low mileage folks.

Synthetic oil does not generally go bad sitting still unless it's a dramatic time that passes, like years.
Neither does gear lube unless those low miles are also very severe duty. Changing gear lube at 15,000 miles under normal use may make sense if they are using cheap gear lube from the factory, but walking into the showroom and telling a guy it's been 24 months so he needs to change all the fluid in the gear boxes is silly when they only have 6000 miles on the truck.

Like their 6 year, 60,000 mile plug change. Spark plugs do not wear down unless they are sparking.
Changing plugs at 6 years with only 20,000 miles on them is insane. They are perfectly good and should not have to be changed out.

The plugs may not wear out sitting there. But if they sit in an aluminum head too many years they'll bring the threads out with them.

A vehicle that sits doesn't burn off condensation drawn into major components as much as a vehicle with high mileage. Condensation in oils will rust components and can mix with contaminants in the oil and create acids. This can break down the oils cause foaming and destroy bearings. As a vehicle sits for days it heats and cools with the outside temperature. As it heats up the air inside expands and at night it cools and contracts. This breathing draws in the condensation. Brake fluid is the worst for this as it also hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture. Then the moisture sinks to the bottom of the system and seizes calipers and cylinders.

I Drive/enjoy my Tacomas and don't worry so much about following the manufacturer's maintenance schedule which main purpose is to increase their revenue and bottom line.

Hum, I have 414,000 miles and 24 years on my '96 Tacoma 4x4 and still has original brake fluid, original calipers/wheel cylinders and master cylinder.

You drive a lot. So with the regular heating of the brakes and fluid the moisture is evaporated from the system for the most part. I would suggest flushing the fluid with new fluid to get rid of the crap that does accumulate at the bottom. Nice that these trucks have such record of dependability. I hope mine serves me as well as yours has.:hattip:

Actually, I don't drive the '96 a lot anymore as I drive my '18 TRD Sport most of the time. The dealers love it when these trucks are brought in for their recommended maintenance.
