5100s and 285 tires require trimming to prevent rubbing?

    Pretty much I wanted to avoid doing any trimming on frame mounts or plastic in the wheel well so I was planning on running 265/75/17.

    I'm curious if anyone has experience or knowledge on whether or not I would need to do trimming of the wheel well area if I go with Bilstein 5100s set at max height of 2.5" with 285/70/17 tires?

    Yes you will be trimming and you need aftermarket wheels or spacers to run 285's

    Yes I have 5100's and eibach coil springs which I have set at the 3" level and I still had to trimm

    You could consider 255/85/16 or 255/80/17 if you want 33" tires and don't wanna trim

    how about 275/75/16's? bfg makes them in their classic all terrain. will they rub?

    Unfortunately I'm pretty set on Duratracs and they don't come in 255/80/17

    You should trim anyways for weight savings and better 1/4 mile times... thats what I did. Fitting 285's was just a bonus

    Haha better quarter mile times? What was the difference in time? can't weigh that much right?

    Nothing is wrong with trimming I guess... I just don't want to worry about rust and what not... and isn't there a reason toyota put them there? wouldn't strength or something be comprimised?

    it's plastic bro..how much strength do you think it's contributing? you will see approximately 0% increase in rust by trimming off 4in of plastic.

    @copdoctor its plastic?! I know i will have to trim some plastic but I was under the impression that the body bracket is steel?!

    oh screw that man, some guys swear that you'll have to chop your body mount or whatever. i didn't, i just cut the plastic front and back and called it good. at full lock going over bumps, yea it rubs, but it's no big deal

    Really its a matter of what you intend to do with the truck and how much rub you are willing to tolerate. The nice thing about the cab mount if you don't trim it is the fact that the edge where it rubs is smooth and won't chunk your tire up at least. Me..I chopped and plated mine because it was free and I want my 285's to clear in as close to all scenarios as I can manage.

    oh, didnt realize you were set on duratracs. im running 265 load range c duratracs. they ride nice, have awesome traction in all conditions as well. my billies are at 1.75" and they dont rub (excepet for the two little nubs on the front mudflaps).

    fyi, many claim the duractracs "run big." the 265s are a pretty beefy tire.
