    Hey Taco Brothers and Sisters,

I searched the forums and found some scattered info on this, but who out there actually HAS 5100s up front for their 3rd gen. 2016 Tacoma, and at what setting? How long have you had them? And finally, notice anything different OR ISSUES (ride quality, ride height, etc)?

So torn right now on whether or not pulling the trigger on them, using a different shock, or waiting until Bilstein comes out with their updated shock (whenever the hell that is! LOL). Thanks!

I been wanting to pull my trigger too! But read somewhere here on the forum, Bilstein is supposed to come out with the updated one in September. I'm going to wait for now! Let us know if you get any new info!

image.jpg 5100 all around for a month. Front set at .85. Difference in ride was noticeable. What was hard jaw crunch is now more of a noticeable bump. Cornering seems more controlled. I have read in a number of places that blistein is coming out with a new shock in September of this year but that people have called the company and there is no difference in valves it is just going to be a change in the locations of the adjustable ring location to compensate for the 1" increase lift on the 2016s. Happy with my purchase. There are a couple threads in this forum specific to the 5100 and it is discussed about the only change being the adjustment ring location being changed. Thanks @Blazingbluesport ! Might not wait till September after all! Did you do the Bilstein's first before adding the TRD Pro rims? Or were you riding stock with Bilstein's? If running stock wheels with Bilstein's did you see any lift in the rear? Sorry for all the questions! Thanks in advance!

I had the TRD wheels before the 5100s but there was no lift in the rear from the shocks. Only the fronts adjust. The .85 gave me about a 1.5 " lift but after a month it settled to a 1" lift. I also put on Sumosprings in the rear which is a replacement for the bump stops that gave me a 5/8" lift in the rear but are primarily used to prevent leaf spring sag from heavy loads. I occasionally pull a 19' sport boat loaded with equipment. There is a specific thread in this forum about Sumosprings. Just put it in the search. The 5100 all around with the fronts set at .85 will level the truck as there is a slight rake in the truck from the factory. Also it is a good idea to get an alignment after the shock install to make sure everything lines up. I had a proffessional put on the shocks. You need a spring compressor for the fronts and it can be dangerous if you don't know what your doing. I know some have done the rears themselves as it's just unbolting and bolting back on. But my mechanic did it all for me. The Sumosprings I did myself. Took half an hour and was pretty simple to install. I have the torque specs for all components of the front and rear suspension if you need them.

5100 set at .85" up front stock rear I liked the smoother feel up front better dampened IMO
I leveled it up to have no issues with the new wheels.
I did have some front rub at the back of the front wheels from the stock mud flaps but I took a heat gun and moulded it in a bit tighter and put a screw in the bottom to suck in the mud flap in much better now.

Also note it always a good idea to get alignment done after suspension work. I did that today and with just the small lift in front the alignment was still bang on $40 well spent for peace of mind.

Wheels are FUEL "Beast" 17x9 +1 Offset on BFG K02 265/70/17

I have been riding with Bilstein 5100s on all four corners with the front set at .85 and 1.5" AAL (Deaver tri-pack) on the rear. The ride is excellent. It may be slightly stiffer but very well behaved. I absolutely love this truck!

Hey man, this is pretty much the EXACT same truck I have LOL LOOKS AMAZING! I know we briefly talked to eachother previously, but I got a few questions for ya:1) what size tires are those? 2) how many inches lift did you get? 3) where did you get all your mods done at? and finally 3) how much did everything cost you? Thanks brother!

Yo, I'm in SD as well...where you planning on getting your work done? I asked a couple of places and they won't sell the 5100s.

Try The Truck Shop off of Miramar Rd. They did mine and they do top notch work.

I have 5100's in the front at 0.85 with 1/2 toytec spacers in the back. also with slightly oversized tires on stock rims. excellent setup in my opinion.

Yes that's a good setup. I was going this route if I didn't do the sumos.

How long do 5100's last? If the life expectancy is the same as a standard shock I may just go with something a little more expensive that are rebuildable. Any thoughts?

Sorry took awhile to respond but, I was thinking a couple of options.

    1) Purchase Bilsteins from @Downsouth Motorsports (Which is local SD) and doing the work myself, a buddy and some beer!

    2) Or take it to a shop near where I stay in El Cajon where they have the 5100's in stock

@sdsurfer mentioned the Truck Stop as well and I here alot of great things about them!

When I make my decision I will let you know!

No worries brother! So I've done a lot more research and this is what I've found out:

    * Some of these local places in SD won't sell the 5100s for the 2016 BUT will install them. So...I'm gonna get them off jet.com (for SO much cheaper! Less than $300 for BOTH front and rears!)

    * Then I might either go with Truckshop in Mira Mar OR 4WHeel Parts in El Cajon. Shaun at 4Wheel Parts was AWESOME - SO informative and helpful...might just go with him since he spent the time to explain everything :)

    Hope this helps!

How do the Sumosprings give it any lift. Do they touch on the top and that gives the lift. I thought under no load they do not even touch the top so where does the lift come from. Do you have pics of it? I found this picture but maybe this is still on jacks so that is why the space is between the top and the Sumospring.

Ok thanks. I didn't even think it touched the frame until it got loaded and sagged maybe a half inch or so. I think this setup with 5100's upfront set at 0.85 setting and Sumo Springs in the back will give a perfect look and keep the whole truck close to level when loaded up with Canopy a couple hundred pounds of camping gear.

FYI... I have 5100s up front set at .85 with progressive AAL (1.5") on the back. I installed sumo springs and there is about 1/4" gap between the sumo springs and the frame. I think if my springs were stock the frame would rest directly on the sumo springs. I have heard from others that sumo springs on stock leaf springs does lift the rear approximately 1/2 inch.
