Alright so I'm installing my bilstein 5100s on my 2013 prerunner and I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to give me since I'm doing it in my garage.

Rent coil spring compressors from local auto parts store. They are usually free with deposit and make everything much much easier.

I was gonna loosen the lower control arm and decompress the spring with the jack that's placed under the arm ...is it really easier with the spring compressor

And if you have an impact driver (even an electric one) it makes using the coil compressors easier.

If it's on jack stands and you have the jack there already, that'll work fine. Just let it down slow and easy with the jack.

You don't need the compressor to take the strut out, you will need them to mount springs on your new 5100s if you did not buy them with pre-mounted springs.

Decompressing the spring isn't the hard part. Hard part is fitting everything back in correct spot with the extra lift. Even an extra 1/8 will make it difficult. I've done it both ways. I like the spring compressor way much better but I was adding 2". 1.75 setting plus 1/4 top plate.
