5100's ? Just front end

I would like to put 5100 adjustables on. Just wondering what is needed for just the front end. Do I just need the the shocks? I know I can use stock springs. Looking to do this and aal in the back. I've been looking around and most info is on the whole kit. Thanks.

 

All you need for the front is the new shocks. Once you have everything installed at the desired setting, you'll know how much lift to do to match the rear.

My access cab got 2.5" of lift from 5100s set at the 1.75" setting with stock springs. A DCLB will get closer to the "average" 1.75" at that same setting.

5100's are not adjustable. At least not in the sense of real adjustable shocks, where the damping rate is adjustable.

5100 is a moderately better than OE shock that has 3 fixed spring perch locations. Selecting anything above 0 (stock) preloads the spring to create lift. At the expense of spring travel and at the risk of spring binding.

If you want lift, pick the right spring for the job, and then the right damper for the job at hand. If the 5100 is rated to control the spring selected, then use the 0 setting for max travel, ride, etc.

So it's like having a spacer lift without a spacer if it's set higher?

 

Not at all.

 

If buying just the shocks and using the stock coils, you will most likely need to buy new bushings for the shocks and rubber top hats for the top of the struts. Mine on my 09 are worn out, so this is something ill be replacing while i have them apart

The 5100s ride great IMO at the setting I ran them. I did upgrade to new coils and the ride is better, but there was nothing wrong with the running the preloaded setup if your looking to lift on a budget.

 

OP, the information above is good advice for your '08.

The 5100s do come with new washers and bushings for the stem though.

 

Mine didnt when i got them.. think it depends on the place you get them from

 

That's odd, I've bought 2 pair for my truck and installed another for a friend. Each of the 3 sets came from different places and had the bushings and washers in the factory boxes.
