Might be more helpful changing title to "5100's Not for Jumping In the Desert..." Just a suggestion from a pro noob.

I mean I guess....5100s do their job for lifting and mild off-roading.

    Your not in this category...

They are the best bang for the buck for someone not looking to spend a lot of money on something a bit better than stock and knowing that they aren't going to be jumping their truck off of dunes.

I don't jump it, just running the sumbitches hard on rougher roads smokes them in under 30 minutes. I'm not dune jumping or running high speed whoops.

The pile of shit stock suspension off my sport was only 1 notch below these.

This isn't news, 5100s have always been garbage stopgap shocks for people who aren't ready to commit to good shocks or stay OEM. They ride worse than OEM and they ride worse than good shocks. What they do is lift your junk on the cheap.

8112s are an awesome coilover honestly, we have seen a few guys running them along with the Bilstein guys running them through the desert all the way to SEMA last year. Seemed to hold up very well overall and offer some serious performance for being a "bolt-in" coilover system.

If you aren't looking to go full long travel style suspension system then these are going to be one of the better bets honestly.

We have a set of them in stock right now too! :D

Shoot me a message anything man can I can get you taken care of with any questions.

When installed properly spcs are just as durable as uniball ucas. If you beat on your truck like you indicate then you likely flattened the cam tabs causing alignment issues. Doubtful the spcs are the cause.

I have around 50k+ on mine. No issues at all. They are beefy, just need to torque the bj nut to 125 or 130 ft lb per instructions and they're good. Properly torqued there is literally no way they will move from what they were set at.

As far as 5100s being shitty,it's all relative. They are good for what they are: lowish cost stock replacement with the capability to lift without shitty spacers. They definitely damp better at speed than stock, though are stiffer at low speeds (digressive valving). Part of the issue is everyone runs them with higher than stock rate aftermarket springs. They we're valved for stock springs. Throw aftermarket springs on there and they can become very underdamped quickly.

For the average person though( probably 80+% of this forum) realistically they are more than enough for what people are using their trucks for. For everyone saying LT, thats pretty overkill for the OPs intended use. Decent mid travel would be more than adequate. And since he's already got the ucas, he only needs coilovers.

5160 are a pretty decent rear shock as well. Not the best, certainly not junk. But again for OPs use more than adequate.

OP just needs a good schooling on how to build and maximize the most of what can be a very good MT suspension blueprint. I've been running my max effort MT for years now and it has been more than adequate and it can easily keep up with most entry line LT suspensions, potentially even outperform them if they are not configured correctly.

A lot of us started at 5100's at some point. No need to shit on the guy simply because he is not well informed yet. (Though admittedly reading some of these comments do make me chuckle)

Now, his radiator support bulkhead on the other hand will not hold the test of time if he runs as hard as he claims he does. So a battery relocate is probably an excellent idea to slow down the damage he may already be causing.

Based on what you just said what does that have to do with the shock?

The shocks overheat and don't provide any rebound causing the springs to sag I'm guessing.

Those are 2 completely unrelated things. The shocks only control the motion of the spring/ vehicle. They have 0 to do with any perceived sagging.
