So moving from the foothills to the valley has kind of waylaid my usual winter activities… which with the season we’ve had hasn’t been an issue so far!

Anyway if I wanted to seek out some snow for the kids to mess around in is there a good spot up around Shaver? Or anywhere near where I live in the Woodward park area of Fresno?

Shaver Lake, but you have to take snow chains as they might stop you and not let you through out there

I can't speak for Dinky Creek if it's open or not but anytime I'd go, the snow was nice and thick and the sequoias are beautiful to check out

    Awesome. Thanks.
I carry chains in the winter having been stuck way too many times to know better… but have never been actually stopped and checked. Is that a thing around here? I usually store them where they’re annoying to get too. Like behind everything up against my cab under a shell. Not bad to move if I need too.

I also carry a shovel which having been buried in the snow without one once… invaluable!

I was never stopped, but social media does post often that they have a spot where they "check" so it's good to have

I snowboard enough at China Peak to say, CHP/CalTran do ask/check at the top of 4lane if snow condition exist.

Heck, they even check when I drive my truck there to make sure I carried chain for the 40" tires.

Keep in mind, you'll need a permit (buy online or from stores in Shaver) to park & play at one of the 4 snow park there. It's 10x cheaper for the permit than a ticket.
