2020 trd off rd with 12k miles has serious whine at 55-60 mph. Took it to dealer who agrees it has a problem but toyota says it is a characteristic of the truck. Total bs that a rear end whining is a characteristic of a $47k truck.anyone been able to get theirs fixed.

I know quite a few got it fixed on the earlier years and even got extended warranties as a cherry on top! That said I think all of them had the issue return or just lessen.

I have the same issue . Their is a kit from the dealer they can install under warranty. I had it done to my truck . It helps but doesn’t make the noise go away completely . It’s normal issue with the off-road .

My buddies 2019 trd or has a slight howl, or whine, but imo, its not loud enough to be a big deal. My 2020 sr5 ac is close to approaching 12k, its just a pleasure to drive...it never had the whine, howl, or any weird vibrations everyone complain's about, so i definitely think toyota should know by now what does it, but as long as its not affecting reliability they'd kept it swept under the rug. I'm getting to think its been an issue related to certain source components for certain trim trucks.
If this makes any difference i've coated the undercarriage of my truck when it had about 4k miles with a good dose of cosmoline, plus it has the factory tonneau cover, and bed mat.

Mine has it too, even after re-gearing, I think unfortunately most of us have it.

Normal it’s been reported here 1000s of times. Check out the search function.

Side note you paid $47000? that’s $10k more than what many of us paid. .

My 2017 was silent on stock gears, so it is possible. Now that I’m regeared to 4.88s I have the 55mph whine on deceleration. Not crazy, but noticeable. Don’t think there is anything to be done about it.

Having said that, my truck does not howl nearly as bad as my friends bone-stock 2015 DCLB Sport. That thing howls like crazy and the guy has never even driven it off road.

This howl thing has been around forever. I wonder if it is to do with the composite bed amplifying the vibrations?

I get it at 58mph. I can only hear it if I open the rear window.

This seems to be the method of choice for "modified" 90s Civics

If i ever paid $47k for a midsize truck, i'd have myself committed. I nearly did at $37k out the door.
