If this is the “theft patrol” then it’s totally worth it.

Used Tacomas really came down in the last 3-6 months. Like 15-20% down

Not the case in Canada. Most dealers still have literally less than a handful of new vehicles in inventory. Not Tacomas, new vehicles total. They usually have 20+ in the "incoming" section with placeholder pictures, yet half are already presold.

If a dealer has an MT Pro, they're looking at it as their last chance to make a killing.

Still can’t believe dealers are pulling this crap . Almost all the dealers in my area are piling up with cars . So shortages are a thing of the past . Nobody is buying new vehicles due to high interest rates . They should be discounting not over charging.

Notice the BS addons, that's treating buyers like sheep and all I can say is fly and drive if that's what you want, I wouldn't buy from them on principal.

I almost wouldn't want to drive one I wouldn't want to give the impression that I payed the mark up to drive one. I guss that wouldn't matter if I got the truck for the price I wanted.

Insurance is getting crazy, car thieves are just driving the costs up. I don't know if they will ever be in the market for insurance, but they never get to complain about the price of any insurance.

I went past a low volume Toyota dealer last week I didn't see any Tacomas, looked like 20 or so Tundras or Sequoias.

    I drive a Miata.

Its all insurance. My homeowners increased by $1000 this year, and the lowest competing quote was $700 above that increase. My cars are the same story, they went up by $900, and the lowest competing quote was a full 250 higher than that. At least medical only nailed me for 2.50 per paycheck, which works out to what, $75? I can live with that one.

But no, there will be no major finances taken on by house Lobster this year, if I can help it. Between costs of making an insurance change and finance, even a car at the MSRP price is not at all appealing.

I seriously want someone to go to this stealership with a trade-in Yugo or Lada, then announce loudly that there's a $5000 markup on the $100 they offered you for the trade.

    Re: Canada.
Our Toyota dealer in Nelson BC hasn’t tried any of that nonsense. They do an undercoat on all their vehicles, but it’s a decent option at a decent price, and we can live with that.

Meanwhile, we looked (briefly) at a Ridgeline, and the Honda dealer had put a $5,000 “paint protector” on it. Yeah, right…..

I guess I got a fair dealer near me. I bought a new 2022 Limited last year. There was no mark up. But I did get a little pissed at paying $185 for nitrogen in the tires. What the hell !!! What a scam, I ain’t running at Talladega.

Chemical/physical differences aside (of which they are both negligible,) I happen to know exactly how much airgas charges my lab for a 300 cubic foot bottle of UHP (ultra high purity) N2. I once got so pedantic with questions about their Nitrogen and chains of custody when dealing with chemicals that I got the sales guy to drop that charge from my camper out of annoyance.

It’s a scam, nitrogen does not improve mileage. It just doesn’t expand or contract as much with a temperature change because it’s an inert noble gas, that’s why race car drivers use it. But I don’t need it in my rides. When I bought the truck I asked the salesman, do think I got a dang bottle of nitrogen at home ? He didn’t have a response.

The reason for nitrogen is simple. An office building full of toyota lawyers found that by using nitrogen in the tires they could reduce the risk of tire blowout (and subsequent legal exposure) by 0.00054 percent. It's the same thing as hot coffee from McDonald's being served in a cup with a bunch of labels stating "WARNING CONTENTS MAY BE HOT"

Being able to charge extra for it is just icing on the cake

I’m willing to bet there is no pure nitrogen in the tires. The air we breathe is 80% nitrogen already. They just stole your money

I guess I'm out of touch, I wasn't aware Nitrogen was needed in a pickup truck so I looked it up.

"The diameter of an O2 molecule is 292 picometers, and that of N2 is 300 picometers. This difference—approximately three percent—may seem small, but it can have a measurable effect on tire pressure. Studies have shown that tires inerted with nitrogen lose pressure more slowly than tires inflated with compressed air, because the oxygen molecules in the air are smaller and pass more rapidly through the microscopic spaces in the rubber."

Yep, they sure did in a way. Also the truck came with tonneau cover which I really didn’t want. That was almost $600. But if I want the truck, that comes with it. Also added was mud flaps that were $120, hell I could have gotten those for $50 at a truck accessory place. But there sits the truck, do I buy it or walk away. I bought it, lol.

That would only matter to me if I was going 200 mph on an oval at Texas Motor Speed way in a million dollar stock car . Otherwise it’s BS.

But that's the whole point, it matters to the lawyers that work for toyota. They couldn't care less how you personally feel about nitrogen.

Say a tire blows up on the highway, truck rolls over and kills 3 people. The family sues toyota for 10 billion dollars. Toyota can go into the courtroom, point to their door jamb sticker that explains the load rating, top speed advisory in the owners manual, nitrogen in the tires, stickers that explain how to use the seatbelts, bla bla bla.. "your honor, we're clearly not at fault here. We did everything we reasonably could to protect the customers safety. It was out of our hands.."

Same thing when they state "check and adjust drivers floor mat and secure as necessary " at the top of every workorder. Is the floor mat really going to cause or prevent an accident? Maybe, maybe not. But it's one more thing they can use in a courtroom to avoid legal risk. Personally they could care less about your floor mat. It's all about not getting sued
