So hoping my fellow 5luggers may have some advise for me.

Wondering how much of the 5Lug can be used on a 4x4?

Owning a 5Lug I understand the suspension is practically useless(As far as use on a 4x4). I would assume the motors are interchangeable as long as the 4x4 is 4cyl. Now the big question I'm pondering is the transmission. Does the transfer-case for the 4x4 make the transmissions non-interchangeable? Also does the length of the drive shaft change, rear end, fenders etc.
Basically I'm wondering if my 5Lug is worth saving for a parts truck.

I know you guys might not have the info I'm looking for but I thought I would give it a shot

The motors are directly interchangeable, when talking about the 4 cylinder. The X-Runner is the V-6 mated to the 5-lug drivetrain and suspension setup.. so there must be minimal compatibility issues related to that.

The automatic transmission final drive gear ratio is 3.58 IIRC.. you can reuse/keep the third member as a spare, as an ECGS regearing will slide in handily. The manual transmission final drive gear ratio is 3.307 .. as such, the third member uses entirely oddball guts that are entirely incompatible with anything else in the Toyota lineup. In short, the manual transmission version's third member is junk outside of being recycled in another MT 5-lug. A (non-TRD) 4x4 sourced 4.10 third member will work with our 5-lugs, so i am assuming that the rear driveshaft is the same.

I don't know what the challenges are regarding 5 speed vs 6 speed manual transmission, if any.

Fenders are the same as any other 2nd gen Tacoma - just missing the square cutouts for the wheel-well trim clips. 5-lug fenders are actually pretty sellable to some of those who have the higher trim package Tacomas, and want to lose the trim around the wheel-wells.

I _think_ one of the issues with the manual transmissions - is it's lack of availability in the DCLB .. the manual transmission is too short to fit in this body/bed combination. Restricted to automatic transmission only.

    FWIW..

So my 5lug AT is about useless if I was to buy a 2.7L 4x4 MT

No. The third member out of your AT is likely useable. 2.7L 4x4 MT comes with a 4.10 ratio on the third member. The Automatic transmission third member gearing on your 5-lug is convertible to 4.10 using gears from ECGS or similar, and is compatible. Only the MT third member is pretty much junk, coming out of our 5-lugs.

I'd just strip out whatever aftermarket parts that you want from your 5-lug.. and sell it off, if a 4x4 is the route you are going.
