    Now onto the V8 swap
As much as I love my truck in its current configuration it has a gnarly ticking sound. The sound seems head related and after replacing the hydraulic lash adjusters and rockers the next thing to do is to pull the head. I decided if I'm going to go into an engine and rebuild it I might as well add a few more cylinders and not use the turbo anymore.
In comes the 1uz-fe from Lexus. This is the engine Toyota spent over a billion dollars on to introduce Lexus with in the LS400. Why the 1uz and not the 2uz or 3uz that come in tundras and 4runners you ask? Well the 1uz is all aluminum so its very light for a v8 as well as the non vvti versions are very simple and rather bulletproof. Also the 1uz from the sc400 comes with an A340e transmission which is the current transmission in my truck. With a couple of parts swapping and the use of a compushift I can use the transmission in my truck as well as the driveshaft and cross-member. I do also have the parts to convert it to 4wd but that'll be at a later date lol.

So this is the truck as its sitting at the beginning of all this

2007 Tacoma 5 lug Regular Cab
    -2tr-fe turbo with a GTX2860r (About 7 psi on a good day)
-6 lug trd offroad rear axle (So elocker and slight regear)
    -Demello offroad Front bumper
-3in front (Spacer for now) 4in rear (Shackle flip & 2016 leaf pack without overload spring)
    -Jeep retrofit headlights
    -Hidden snorkel in cowl

    IMG_20190507_091334.jpg

I have a friend who had 2 1uz engines a 92 and a 96. I decided to build the 96 using some of the components from the 92 (More about that later).

Annnnnnnnnnnnd so it begins with taking delivery of both engines...

    MVIMG_20191006_174638.jpg

    MVIMG_20191006_174649.jpg

    IMG_20191006_174652.jpg

    MVIMG_20191006_174658.jpg

    MVIMG_20191006_215812.jpg

Started to Strip Down the 96 and get it on the stand

    IMG_20191009_204215.jpg

    IMG_20191009_204224.jpg

    IMG_20191010_192008.jpg

    Lots of Parts!!!!

    IMG_20191009_204235.jpg

Finally got the heads off and organized the workbench more to hold all the parts

    IMG_20191014_201056.jpg

    Water and oil pumps off

    IMG_20191019_135316.jpg

Cross hatching looks good although its going to get touched up with the dinkle ball

    IMG_20191012_145551.jpg

Got the pistons out of the 96 (This is after cleaning them)

    IMG_20191022_201535.jpg

Now time for the 92 Pistons

    IMG_20191022_195408.jpg

    IMG_20191022_195428.jpg

    IMG_20191022_201532.jpg

And here is the difference between the 92 rods (top) and the 96 rods (Bottom)

    IMG_20191022_202555.jpg

And the more so important part is the heads from the 92 (Right) make the engine non interference. I will take a 5hp loss but for the cost of durability.

    IMG_20191022_202624.jpg

So a few of the parts in this rebuild will be from the 2uz as there is some commonality. Ebay $100 2uz stainless steel headers are a good example. These headers will flow way better than the original log style.

    MVIMG_20191022_211138.jpg

So this is where I'm currently at. The next step is to do a little more cleaning then prep the bores and gap piston rings.

I used to have a ‘99 LS400. That little Tacoma is going to fly with that motor in it.

do you know how the axle ratios compare? The 4.0 in the LS400 isn’t a torquey motor at all, but wind it up and hang on. Every car has a speed it wants to run at, the speed that if you’re not paying attention this is how fast you’ll go. On my LS400 that speed was 85-90.

Not sure about the ratios but it will be a nice bump even from being a turbo.

Cleaning cleaning cleaning that's all I've been doing since my last post. Got the intake figured out with what vacuum and water lines I'm removing. The fuel rail I'm going to use is from the 1st gen motor as it's billet aluminum and looks way better than the 2 nd gen. I'm even going to use one of the extra holes for a fuel pressure gauge.
    IMG_20191027_142647_399.jpg

I did also strip all the old plastic and shrink wrap from the wiring harness. The more I look at it the more I feel like I'll be making a custom harness. All the plugs need to be replaced and at that point idk if I want to trust the wires from 96 either lol.
    IMG_20191112_010223.jpg
My goal is to make it easy to work on and simplified. For instance I'm deleting parts on the water passage through the intake, as well as adding quick disconnects for the fuel lines so removing the whole intake is easier. You have to remove the whole intake to get to the starter as well as a few other sensors. I'm also going to add a milspec body plug for the harness so diagnosing electric problems is easy as well.

If anyone else has any suggestions to make it more reliable or easier to work on let me know.
