Well I cleaned and lapped the valves in both heads. One thing to note is the heads use the same spring size but there is a difference between gen 1 and gen 2. With the heads and the valves being the same I decided to use the shorter stiffer ones.

    IMG_20200109_211803.jpg

Annnnnd I finally got the heads back on the block.

I still need to do the valve clearances which is going to be the most fun part but she's getting closer and closer to run the starter and test compression and oil pressure. Tomorrow I'm going to the junkyard to hopefully get a more complete wiring harness as well as a few other bits and bobs.

So I check valve clearances and did the final seal on the oil pans. I painted the lower pan silver so if there is any leak it would be easier to spot.
    IMG_20200117_211448.jpg

Annnnnd I painted the valve covers a gross color

    IMG_20200117_211944.jpg

So I had to fix that

    IMG_20200125_160200.jpg

And this is where it sits currently. It's got Royal purple break in oil and the oil pump has been primed. I've cranked it for a bit with just the starter to get the oil pressure up and check compression. Seems good so far. I still need to finish attaching the front accessories, finish the intake and really dig into the wiring.

This is looking great! I'm curious what your plans are for your turbo bits, I'm currently tearing down my spare engine to prep for boost. Mainly the header is what I'm curious about.

Not to much progress. I've added the accessories back on as well as painted the intake pieces. I'm going to attempt to start the engine this weekend with the old beat up harness and just starter fluid. I'm working on making a new engine harness which is taking quiet a bit of time lol.

I did also take a peek at the tranny and it seems good to go.

Yeah got a lot more to button up. I am going to try to get a cheap fuel pump to run it longer through the injectors.

Progress has been super slow. After researching and soul searching I'm going to reuse the stock harness after I doctor it up. The big changes I need to do is rewire the injectors to be sequential instead of group fire. The reason I need to do this is I'm using a second gen ecu but only have a complete 1st gen harness. There are a few other changes but they are more of a repin then a rewire. I am also changing any of the wire to wire connectors over to Deutsch connectors. I've ordered everything I need so hopefully I can make some headway. Once the harness is complete and I can start the engine on the stand again, then it'll be time to look towards the swap itself.

    Lots of spaghetti

Well I finished rewiring the injectors and I got it to idle.

I also got my psc high flow power steering pump installed.

    IMG_20200418_182426.jpg

Why am I adding a high flow power steering pump?
For this mile marker 12k hydraulic winch.

    IMG_20200219_201330.jpg

Still gotta wire up my new fuse box for the engine, finish up the in cab wiring along with the transmission's wiring. The list is getting smaller and smaller. So enough I'll be ready to drop ready to drop the engine in the truck.
